I have seen a few small buck wandering aimlessly, but no rut activity. I am hoping it kicks into full gear tomorrow!  ;D

Been seeing lots of scrapes both in Otsego and Dutchess Counties. But until today, saw no hard evidence of rut peak. Saw a spike chasing a doe around the woods at 4:00PM this afternoon. Would have shot the doe if he chased her close enough.

I have seen scrapes and rubs but no real evidence of bucks chasing does.  I had a small 2 point buck - would have been a possible four point but the right antler was broken at the base with a nice sharp 2" shard left - wander in yesterday and the break looked as though it was the result of a fight.  He was interested in a young doe who had been busy pirating my bird seed but she certainly was not interesed in him.  I don't really know if the does have gone into estrus here, yet.

Here in st lawrence county, there has been some activity. The best time is not during the rut, it is before when they are chasing. when the rut really starts they hold up in bedding areas waiting for the actual activity.  The true rut actually lasts about 36 hours,so it can come and go in a hurry.  once the rut gets here the best is over.
