I was glad to see him back. I am going to get cable again just so I can see the series without borrowing a TV. LOL This was a pilot so they are going to cover more firearms in detail in the series. There were a few technical things that could be changed but it was fun.
Don't do rapid fire. Wipe the bore throughly before loading powder. Observe the between shoot time limits before loading.
Very important point. Rapid fire is almost always where the accident occurs in muzzle loading. I told them the Hou Qiang was particularly dangerous to shoot in succession. We have to swab twice and visually inspect the bore twice between reloading. It has a paper lined barrel and used a paper powder chamber to provide volume with less peak pressure. (like the 40mm's) The crew appreciated that after witnessing the AD and seeing the crude stuff I was shooting for them. The Tannenburg gun has a very small chamber which has it's own challenges to make sure it has no residue. I used commercial powder in both of them for safety.
I feel sorry for the guy who had the AD on national TV but an AD can happen to anyone. Be careful, especially with you guys, tired of the little 58 and 69 calibers. If that had been a pound of powder and a 24 pounder projectile "all the King's horses and all the Kings men" may not be able to put you back together again. (or even the Doc)
