DRUM VENTING

I have read in several publications about "venting" the drum by drilling a small hole in the drum between the nipple and the barrel.  This supposed to make ignition " 'bout foolproof", by allowing the air to be expelled by the flame.  I would be interested in your comments and thoughts, pros and cons, etc.  Thanks.

 as i understand it , this was  based on the theory in front of the heat and gas wave from the cap , is an area of pressure that builds and slows the ignition down  . Venting the drum  is said to have   fixed this ????
 I know of a couple folks that have the drum vented and I have done it for a few rifles that  customers have requested it done . Personally I see no real improvement
 Interesting enough , there were also vent liners for flint locks that  had a double flash hole for this very reason

I've seen this re comended in a couple of publications, never saw any reason to do so. all the caplocks that I've owned have worked just fine.  ( when keep clean, maintained and loaded with the powder first not the ball0
