Savage Model 10ML & 330 grain cast
« on: November 15, 2008, 05:02:07 AM »
Just got back from the range. I decided to wait to the last minute to more simulate actual hunting conditions with snow and cold included. ;D The 330 grain home made, Lyman cast hollow point, .458 inch bullets performed well at 100 yards. A three Shot group of 2.5 inches is the best I could do today, but I am pleased. I believe a higher magnification scope would improve the group. I am limited to a one power scope per Wisconsin law. The bullets are cast from wheel weights and I do not expect them to expand, but am unsure with the hollow point design. The chronograph measures the bullet speed at 1618 fps. This is charged with a reasonable amount of AA5744. I used MMP sabots. I also tried Oregon Trail Laser Cast .458 bullets at 350 grains with the same sabot and powder charge, nearly the same point of impact. In conclusion, I am very happy with this rifle and it seems to shoot everything with good accuracy. :D
