Thats funny when I shot both 5mm and 22 mag into wet news paper the 22 mag always out penetrated the 5mm ;D my shots were at 50 and 100yds. and that was with the old tried a true Win 40gr. HP! The old RWS 22 mag ammo would blow the doors in on the 5mm!!! :'(And the RWS ammo has been around as long or longer than the 5mm ammo. Nice try drilling man ;)

HUH?  Who said anything about penetration?  Who said anything about shooting newspaper?

mag check,  I don't know what your problem is? But, i am sure you don't have more experience with the 5mm than i do...  I think you told me you shot a couple squirells with it, or was it a rabbit??

Please "refresh" my memory, as to EXACTLY what "live animals" you personally have shot with a 5mm Rem. Mag., so we can see where you acquired all this vast knowledge on how well it works or doesn't work on real live animals.

I can go back along time with the 5mm before I owned one good friends killing wild hogs deer and they didnt kill any better than the 22 mag when I was shooting small game with my 5mm it didnt take me long to figure out that the bullet on the 5mm wasnt all that good sometimes it wouldnt expand most of the time past 75 yds, the bullet would have a tuff time expanding! Ive shot more different 5mm rifles than youve ever seen my friend and there all the same low grade plinking rifle that the extractors would brake on and the bolt handles would fall off of because of stiff case extracting problems! Just the other day my gun smithing buudy had one come in with a broke bolt handle! Yes once again fine guns those 5mms ;D ::)Last summer we had a bad coon problem down here and a buddy of mine killed 18 in two weeks anyway he was testing the 5mm against the 17HMR on one coon it took 3 shots to kill it at 40yds. He told me that the HMR killed the coons quicker than the 5mm did. He also said it looked like the 5mm bullet wasnt expanding. So Ive been around alot more killing with the 5mm than you have trust me.

And one more thing and then Ill quit. I rememeber some of the big swamp rabbits I shot at 75 yds. and the 5mm would just poke a single caliber hole in them! Thats when me and the not so fine 5 parted ways.

You have to ask yourself one question why if the 5mm was so good that it were the guns droped by remington after only 2 years? They made ammo up until 1982 and still know other manufacture other than TC picked it up by making a few barrels! And still today CCI will not make ammo for the 5mm if anyone was going to make ammo to show the rifle manufacture that it was a good deal it would be the world leader in rimfire ammo! CCI makes all of the 17HMR ammo the 22 mag ammo for Remington and Federal but they won't make 5mm ammo ;D Like I said why have to ask yourself just how good is the 5mm! The 22 mag has been around since 1960 theyve made millons fo rifles I think at last count theres 25 different types of ammo and im hearing theres more to come. So Navylawdog its plain to see which is the better round! Don't fool with the 5mm Remington you won't be happy.

Actually, all i REALLY have to ask myself is...  When "i" actually tried the 5mm on more than a "few" LIVE targets MYSELF, did it out perform the 22Win. Mag. or not???  And it did...

Perhaps it doesn't kill "phone books" as well???  I have no idea on that, as i havn't shot any phone books with my 5mm...

I see you refuse to answer my question on how many actual "kills" YOU' have made with a 5mm...   This tells me you have FAR less experience with the 5mm on "live targets" than i do, and so not much of what you post here is usefull info, when compareing it to the 22 Win. Mag....

I'm quite confident from reading the other replies on this thread, that the majority here see through your rants too... So keep on, keeping on, if that's what makes you feel better. lol

Just for fun Mag-check, I decided to call CCI and ask about the 'ol 5mm... The gentleman I spoke with said he wished they did make 5mm ammo, and the fact that they didn't was primarily a marketing thing... there just aren't enough 5mm owners to justify the cost of setting up for mass production of the cartridge.

Oh, did you mention Varminter.com? I checked out the 5mm over there and here are the first two articles I found:

http://www.varminter.com/particles/5mmpartone.htm
http://www.varminter.com/2008/5mmrrm.html

Boy, that target on the bottom of the second article sure makes some of your posts smell a little stinky doesn't it?

Everyone I know that has a 5mm loves it. Everyone I know that has owned one wishes they still did. You're the only exception I've encountered. So much for truth...
