7x57 Handi Helps Fill The Freezer
« on: November 15, 2008, 04:45:20 PM »
Opening day of the VA rifle season and as always my youngest boy (12) wanted to go.
This year I switched the barrel on his Handi youth 243 to a 7x57 with a Weatherby Supream 3x9 scope.
We saw 19 deer with 3 bucks, one of which was a really nice 9pt which was hot on the tail of a doe at around 300yds, no shot.
On the way back in he spotted some does at about 170yds away and decided he would do his part to help feed the family.
From a steady rest across the front of the 4 wheeler he squeezed one off on a small one and down she went.
His only comment was "it does kick a little more than the 243".
I get more of a thrill helping him get his deer than I do when I get mine!
Remington 140gr sp and now I have meat to cut up tomorrow.

I hope the pic isn't to small, I didn't know I could resize the image on my cell until after I got back to the house.
I will do better the next time, if I remember!!!

YES    THAT IS MY FINGERS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PIC  :'(

I am happy for both you and your son LONGTOM. Wow, a 7x57 for a lucky (and good) young hunter, he has the best at a young age!!! Congratulations to both of you, and to him for a fine shot....<><....:)

Congratulations to both of you.
Not only did it help fill the freezer it helped to carry on a tradition between father and son.
That's the most important thing we can do as outdoorsman.
Thanks for sharing the pic. with us!!
