Great people help make great memories
« on: November 15, 2008, 05:14:54 PM »
Three years ago my son was paralyzed waist down in a sledding accident. Years ago, I got him and his best friend started hunting the right way, chasing turkeys. Now that same friend and a couple very kind landowners have teamed up to help him hunt deer. This was the result November 9th - I'm really proud of him. Here's the pic:

Dave wasn't able to get this one sent in for mounting, but I'm sure that will keep him keen on going again!

Thanks for sharing, always cool to see good folks helping out like that. Someone had to work hard to push that wheelchair also, I have a little experience in that area.

Kudos to you and your son.

Weasel,
Thanks for the kudos to him. You're right about the pushing part! This time, they actually got the truck stuck in a snowdrift, so after they got their way worked up to the stand location, his buddy took a hike for help to boot. People make really nice all-terrain powered chairs, but they cost like a 2 passenger quad atv! There are heavy duty all terrain manual chairs too, and they still go for about what a Cooper rifle goes for. Fortunately he and his friend are both young and strong (Dave was on the paralympic swim team) so it takes quite a lot to hold them back.
This is the deer he got a couple years ago:

Thanks again,
Wallypedal

And it's nice to know there are still good young people coming up behind us. Kind of cheers me up.

Ya know, after reading this thread and thinking about it, it reminded me of a friend who is a paraplegic, he has a full-time job, works on equipment and does leatherwork in his off-time. I don't consider him to be handicapped, his legs just don't work, but he can outwork me any day. Your son reminds me of this tough Nevada cowboy.

Happy Hunting, Jim
