I believe the .308 is a perfectly capable round out to 500 - 600 yards or even farther with the right equipment, that is if you put in the necessary time to fully know your rifle and load. With a good, accurate, consistent load you can easily create your own personal ballistic chart for your gun. Combine this with a good set of optics that can reliably adjust and come back to zero, and either a range finder or a good eye for judging distance to target and the .308 will do it's job and do it well! The latest, greatest, fastest, and flattest cartridges are nice to look at in a magazine, but few people who own them actually need them or even use them to their fullest potential. Take time to know your rifle, and your rifle won't let you down! Now whether or not your Handi is capable of X yards... well only you can answer that one.
