I work at a print shop in Minnesota.  Since I stated there 14 months ago 40-50% of the crew has been laid off.  I'm one of the fortunate ones that still has work.  God has been good to me.

Where you at? There are jobs available here, but I see them drying up if you don't act fast? The non AG industries are laying off so the Ag jobs are being scooped up pretty fast. Whoever thought up the saying that "good things come to those who wait" was a liar.

Plumberroy-
The apology I gave is the only apology I am going to give-like I said-I've been in a union (s), and worked alongside union carpenters as a non-union cabinetmaker. I have seen both sides. We form OUR opinions on OUR life experiences and have the opportunity to express them on forums like this. Next time I express my opinion Ill start my reply with: Hi - My name is ......, I am 38 years old, married, no kids, 2 dogs, hunting, fishing, canoeing, woodworking, riding my harley, and enjoying the outdoors are my hobbies. I disagree with your reply because....... Like I said, I was just a little crabby that day- hope I didn't upset you too much. ;)

my last post wasn't meant to hammer on you, I just know where you are coming from.  growing up  I worked  for anything I got too. I hoed corn and beans all day long, I work all summer, the year I was 12 to pay for a pacing pony and saddle.   I have known some old timers in the uaw  that where a sorry excuse for a plumber/pipefitter ( couldn't solder copper pipe) so I know what you are talking about.

I got nail guns for everything. Any time my wife sees me driving a nail with a hammer she asks me if I am sick. Then she wants to go get the camera. Dale

Sweet-
Now we have a hispanic female as labor secretary. That explains why they want the auto industry to go bankrupt. Then they can haul in mexicans by the busload and get the labor costs down.

Well, I'm not a union guy.  I think they did good things in the past but now they seem to just raise our costs.  When my wife and I married 10 years ago, she got hired on a union brick crew building a new hospital on the base I was stationed on.  She was used to working her dad's brick crew and kept him supplied with mortar, bricks, sand and what ever else it took to finish the job and to lay up to 1,000 bricks a day.  They union guys could only lay 400 a day and then they had to go home.  She was pretty ticked because she was working hourly cleanup and they would finish before noon and then she'd only get paid for four or five hours a day.  Ticked me off too since anytime we went home on leave, I worked for her dad too and I knew how hard he worked for his money.  These other union dudes were just there for the sham job.

Thankfully, in my profession, unions are outlawed.  I've got 21 years in the USAF and can stay for 26 unless I get promoted again.  Then I could stay for 28.  I already get a retirement if I decide to drop my papers but with the economy right now, I think I'll stay in for another 2-3 just to see how it goes.  If I get promoted or get a really good assignement, I may choose to stay longer than that, who knows.  At least I know my bills will be paid forever.
