Ruger No.1 in 45/70 with 416 gr paper-patched lead bullet.  Took a nice buck with a single shot at 80 yards and a doe with a single shot at 70 yards.  Easy recovery of both deer after short runs.

I shot 2 more ;D
these were with 700 sps 270win and 140 sierra bthp bullets.
both deer had busted shoulders on one side and 1 had great exit
and blood spray and blood trail for 30 yards the other also had an
exit but very small and very little blood sprayed or trail but only
went 15 yards also. both was shot at about 80 & 100 yds.
all and all the 140 sierra hpbt seems to be ok and both deer had major internal
damage.

I took this SE Wyoming buck at 8800 ft. elev. almost exactly 1 mile from my cabin which sits at 8200 ft.

Downhill carry, now that's a smart shot.

I took a big fat doe back in October with a Marlin 336C in .35 Rem, with the LeverEvolution rounds.  She ran about 20 yards towards the truck, I was quite happy.

Stevens 200 243 topped with a Leupold VX-I using Fusion 95gr. One fell where he stood and the other didn't make it 30 yards.

In Sept of this year I shot a 2 point mule deer buck @ 50 yards with my Marlin 1895GS 45-70 with 350gr Swift A-Frames.

Then this last Friday morning Nov 28/08 I shot this fellow @ 210 yards with my 1'st gen s/s T/C Contender carbine chambered in a wildcat called 308 B  ellm which are 444 Marlin brass necked down with 308 Win dies I get 2600fps with 150gr bullets out of it's 21" barrel and I average 2" 3 shot 200 yard groups with this combo.

Have taken 7 doe deer this year with a 270.  Took a few more last year with a 7mm-08.  In NC we can take all the doe we need.  I grind mine into burger.

Gonna try this again last time photos were in wrong format and didn't post.

The first buck was taken in PA by my friend Barry on his farm. The second was taken by Allen the son of his neighbor also on his farm just at the edge between their two farms but on my friend's farm.

Barry's buck is an eight point and Allen's is called a ten but that tiny little 10th barely at best is a point. I'd likely call it an nine if it were mine. Both were taken yesterday on PA firearms season opener.

Barry used a Ruger 77 International that was gonna come south to me but I was a bit undecided on it and he liked it so he kept it. It was purchased by him thru another GBO member who lives near him.

Barry's 2008 buck.

Allen's 2008 buck.

Are we handgun hunters becoming endangered here?...53 post and I believe that Shaylex is the only one to use a handgun so far?

Mine was a large doe that was kilt with a handloaded 240gr XTP out of the .44 SBH

You rifle hunters can ignore me as I live in a Shotgun\muzzleloader\handgun only State. If we were allowed the centerfire's, I would have been there & done that ;D

NEF ML Sidekick, 1st deer with this rifle.  295 Powerbelt, over 2 pyrodex pellets. About 40 yds, pass through shot. This 10 pt. buck went about 30 yds max and layed down- he was dead deer walking!

11-16-08.  7:15 am.  Southern Nebraska.  45-70  Handi and my handload of a Rem. 405 JSP @ 1350 FPS. The fork horned buck was shot @ 25 yards from my homemade ground blind and ran 40 yards, leaving a blood trail that looked like something  described from a Steven King novel . Quartering away shot, struck right behind near shoulder, clipped the very top of the heart, leaving 1 1/2 " holes inside  the cavity & broke offside shoulder before exiting. I've  certainly shot bigger bucks and a few " wallhangers " among them, but none that  had any better meat than this guy, including fresh liver & pickled, pressure cooked heart. Totaled boned meat weighed 65 pounds.

While my brother in law was "harvesting corn" I killed this one a mile down the road in farm country. .300 win mag, 180 gr. Sierra BTSP at just over 75 yards. He never moved from where he stood up. Would have been really nice if it weren't for the broken off stuff.
