« on: November 17, 2008, 02:32:25 PM »
I used my Howa 1500 270win & Nikon Bushmaster 3-9x40 scope with a 140gr Sierra BTHP pushed by Win 760. My rangefinder showed 106 yards.           Bang flop , DEAD.

This season, after about thirty minutes of hunting on opening day, a 6 pt at 120 yds Browning A-Bolt LH 25/06.   Last season, same field, a 6 pt at 110 yds with a Browning LH A-Bolt 30/06.  Both dropped in their tracks.

I took this SE Wyoming buck at 8800 ft. elev. almost exactly 1 mile from my cabin which sits at 8200 ft.  My new-to-me rifle this year is a Remington 700 Classic (1994 mfg.) in 6.5X55SE with an old Weaver K3 scope and 140 gr. Hdy. Spire Point handload.

I hate the word "harvest" when used in conjunction with killing game animals!   >:(  Smacks of political correctism to me!   :P  But...

har⋅vest
–noun
1. Also, har⋅vest⋅ing. the gathering of crops.
2. the season when ripened crops are gathered.
3. a crop or yield of one growing season.
4. a supply of anything gathered at maturity and stored: a harvest of wheat.
5. the result or consequence of any act, process, or event: The journey yielded a harvest of wonderful memories.
–verb (used with object)
6. to gather (a crop or the like); reap.
7. to gather the crop from: to harvest the fields.
8. to gain, win, acquire, or use (a prize, product, or result of any past act, process, plan, etc.).
9. to catch, take, or remove for use: Fishermen harvested hundreds of salmon from the river.
–verb (used without object)
10. to gather a crop; reap.

Sooooo, I guess it could be correct...  :-\
Still don't like it though....  :P

Anyway, I killed  ;D  my one deer so far this year with a new to me Marlin 30TK in 30/30 shooting LeverRevolution factory loads; didn't have time to work up a satisfactory handload.   :-[

I usually have 3 or 4 in the freezer by now...  :(  I been sick...  :(  Only a couple a months of season left...  :(   :'(   ;)

Late season here starts Dec. 1
Last years deer was with a 7-30 Waters carbine on a G2 frame. Speer 130 gr. BTSP bullet. I won't post the range, lets just say it was out there. Shot her in the cut corn and bare ground.

I'm going to hunt the rest of my life...  If it helps the cause even a little to make that possible by using the word "harvest", then i'll give in that little bit, and use "that" word.  If it helps one new person to start hunting, because they don't like the word kill, then that's another reason to give in that little bit...

You can use what ever word you want, but i'm looking at the overall picture here, and not that one little word...

I see your not looking at the "big" picture either...  I'm not giving up my guns...  I'm not giving up my ammo, it's just a word, and if it helps me, and any NEW HUNTERS in this world, i'm not to closed minded to say "harvest"...

Like AtlLaw I harvest my crops and I kill game. Tho our season doesn't start until in the morning so I've not and might not hunt this season. I only made it out a couple days last year and maybe I'll be able to get out again this time. I have until Jan. 31 so there is no particular rush.

So far this year, I have only used a T/C black diamond muzzleloader to take whitetails. Hopefully Mr. Buck will give me a chance to use my rem. 870 soon.

I like to kill stuff myself. So far this year I have let alot of little bucks walk with bow and shotgun. I have killed a few coons with my bow though. Well if I don't get one this year I'll be fine. The last 4 years I been killing nice bucks. Can't win em all.

Ok, you can harvest or kill whichever you want. It is just using a different word for the same thing. It's like arguing over whether to use a 270 or 308; or a bow or gun; Winchester or Remington. The end result is the same. I think some people argue for the sake of arguing.

Used a Remington 700 SPS Buckmaster .30-06 with a Nikon 3x9x40 to take these two on the second weekend of season.  Nothing spectacular on the rack but they sure did put a lot of meat in the freezer together!  ;D  I took a small doe opening morning.  I hope to get one more before the year is out.
