This goes across Political lines ,Race , ideology , and for what ever reason it was allowed to continue to this point is irrelevant at this time.
The two Agents here were not told, nor a part of, any deals that were made ,Promises being kept , or anything having to do with any power struggles between Governments or Political party's.
If there is a reason the American people are not being told of for this injustice ,then we need to be informed as to what that may be ,other than a drug smugglers rights being violated for resiting arrest.
Other than that, it is an outrage that two men from our Law Enforcement community were imprisoned for risking their lives ,following orders , and preforming above and beyond the call of duty.
The damage from this not only effects us all ,but the family's of these two men ,
and the moral of any LEO who is watching this unfold.
No explanations are really needed ,just let them go , The mark of a leader is also the ability to show mercy.

In the news, there is a lot of support for Bush to pardon these agents.  I agree he should pardon them.  If Slick Willy, excuse me, former president clinton can pardon McDougals in his wifes Whitewater scandal, then it is only appropiate for Bush to pardon 2 agents attempting to do their job.

I would be surprised if President Bush pardoned these 2 men.
I have followed this myself for over a year.  Ramos and Campione were railroaded by a prosecutor, Johny Sutton.  I suspect Bush was acting in collusion with Sutton, myself, most likely calling the shots.
IMHO it is a travesty, and President Bush' actions, and lack of action, has shown a certain contempt for these 2 men.
This contempt is not warranted, the story is out there if anyone cares to read it.
I remember Tony Snow, before he died, vigorously defended the president and the prosecutor on the laura ingram show one morning.
Tony was rude to laura, cutting her off, interrupting any attempt to bring out the true facts, etc.  I was outraged, and lost all respect for Tony Snow.
When he died I thought it kind of served him right.

As a retired ( disabled in the line of duty ) LEO, I have to say that I have mixed feelings about this case. The two agents did lots of wrong things, violated dept. SOP's, covered up and lied about their involvement, etc. Pretty fishy. Yea, the guy that got shot was a drug smuggler, and later was arrested for continued drug smuggling. Not much simpathy for him!!
I really think the thing to do is to commute the sentences, keeping the conviction intact. Let the former officers move on, and bring the whole issue to an end.

CNN's Lou Dobbs had a poll on this. 78% of the respondents thought that they would NOT get pardoned.

I find the source here a bit biased and of those 78% respondents, where was the poll taken.  If it was NYC or LA or Miami, one can bet most of those respondents were not legal citizens anyway.

Those Lou Dobbs CNN polls are phone in types. They could come from anywhere in the country. I would presume most viewers of that program are center or right wing and vote accordingly.
