Paper patch bullets (Find) What are they worth?
« on: November 21, 2008, 03:54:22 AM »
Going through some of dad's gun stuff i found a box of paper patched bullets.  They are 1" long and about .375 inches in diameter.  I don't recall him having any black powder arms of that caliber.  Suspect he got them in an auction box of miscellaneous bullets as there are other older brass pistol and rifle cartridges.

Any idea what they are used for and what they are worth?

Thanks in advance.

Ramrod48,

The bullets are most likely for a .38-55 BPC rifle.  They could be for hunting or silhouette.  What's the bullet weight?  Most PP shooters cast or swage and roll their own and would not purchase someone else's bullets due to unknowns in bullet weight variances, hardness, paper patch material condition, patch lube, etc.  Since you don't know the alloy composition nor anyting else about the bullets, my guess is they are only worth the value of scrap lead of unknown purity, therefore not much.
