What is it worth?
« on: November 22, 2008, 03:55:34 AM »
A friend wants to sell his Contender rifle.  It has a 16 inch 45-70 barrel and black synthetic stock and handguard.  The barrel has a front sight and a scope mount, no rear sight.  I want the action but do not need the rest of the rifle.  I figure the action is probably worth about $200, but what is the rest of the gun worth if I try to sell it?  I am not trying to make money off the deal, but I don't want to pay more for the whole thing than it is worth

Search the TC Classifieds here and you'll likely find your answer by looking at what others have sold similar items for right here. Or you can check out Ed's TCs site and see what he is asking for similar items.

The 16.5" barrels are NO more and are getting hard to find.  You'd have little trouble getting at least $175.00 for just the barrel.  That's one kicking mule as a carbine, but it makes one fine pistol barrel.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt  ;)

I bought one like that only in 17hmr, got 80.00 for stock set and 175.00 for barrel but I did have a little trouble selling the barrel. I think that is called and I may be wrong, contender carbine survival system. The one I bought was like new picked up at gun show for 400.00. The survival comes with 2 barrels but I only got one with mine, probally sold the other barrel to someone else to pick up more on the sale.
