Went To A New Shop
« on: November 22, 2008, 11:37:44 AM »
Aftre my morning deer hunt, I made a trip to a new gun shop and examined the Hawkeyes.  The actions were very rough & the finish on the bolt looked really bad.  I did like the smooth matte blue & the slimmer (and better balanced) nicely grained walnut stock.

I got to play with a NULA in 6.5X.284 (I think) and it was impressive.  I don't like plastic stocks so I'd probably pass.

The Kimbers, Sakos, and Tikkas were there in abundance, but I didn't like them much.  The Kimber was very attractive but I keep hearing about quality issues.

More high end bolt actions than I'd seen in some time.

Hmmmm I didn't know Remington had a new model out called the Hawkeye  :o but your description of the matte blue (to save costs) and rough bolt means it must be a Remington  ;)  :D

Just joshing you  ;D ;)

Not seen the Ruger Hawkeye let alone handled one.

The real question of course how did the hunt go?

We hunted a creek bottom (mostly white oaks & dogwood trees)near a field of planted pines.  My stand was on a well used path running from one to another.  I saw seven does & my buddy saw eight.  We can't shoot does in the area where we were hunting.  My son killed a little 5 point with his Mossberg ATR in .30-06.  He's killed a lot of deer with that $250.00 rifle.  I mounted a Bushnell 3200 Elite 3-9X40 on it before I gave it to him.
