How many contender barrels do you own?
«

I'm not really sure at this point just how many i have. I have barrels from the 3 TCA 6.5"ers to a 16.1 22lr carbine barrel and just about everything inbetween(except perhaps a 12" barrel). I have a few 10" and even a couple(2) of the older 8" 45/410 barrels with the outside chokes. 2 14" barrels in 223 & 30-30. as well as one 10" 357 max barrel customized by mounting a KBI muzzlebreak. I did have a 16.1 45/70 with an added inch to 17.1 (by adding the T/C hunter muzzlebreak to it) but got rid of it since it was a real brute to shoot! I traded it to Ed for the 6.5" 9mm TCA barrel a while back. In the 10' barrels I think I have 2 in 32 H&R mag, 1 in 22LR. I would like to add another in 38 special or even one of the octogon TCA versions someday in 38. A barrel in 45 acp and 762x25 would be welcome too. Maybe I should have titled this post wish list <VBG> ;-)

I ONLY have 6 at this time and am spending any extra money on loading supplies rather than the 50 other barrels and actions I would love to have.
10" octagon 22LR
10" 218 Bee
10" 45/410
14" 30-30
15" 7-30 Waters
16" 223
Any donations will be gladly excepted

I was up to 16 at one time. Many were hard to find calibers that I said I would never get rid of. But along the way I needed money to fund some other gun purchases and made the rule that if I bought any more guns I would sell something to pay for it. I decided to be a T/C hunter and not a collector and sold some so I am now down to 7.

I have owned Contenders for years, had two frames and six barrels, but a while back I accuired another frame and 29 additional barrels. About half had scopes, and there was a massive ammount of ammo, dies and reloading equipment included. They are fun guns and responsible for a sizeable ammount of deer meat being placed in the freezer.
Saddest mistake I ever made..........a fellow offered to sell me a 16 inch Encore with .257 Roberts, 6.5x55 and .223 barrels, one with a Leuopold Scope, the other two were Simmons. They were all in like new condition, I could have walked out the door for $550. Needless to say, when I woke up and went back for them they had already found a new home.

10 left. Since I retired about 8 years ago I find it harder to get out hunting. That and some medical bills have forced me to sell many of my guns. Funny, the wife STILL says I have to many!?

I've been collecting these things for 34 years so when I retired I'd have lots of toys to play. Now that I'm about to retire it looks like I'm going to have to sell'm just to eat. GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt

Hey Hopalong, still have that .38 Special barrel I bought from you. That and fifteen others. Have sold a few and a couple frames but have kept my less common ones. Nearing seventy with macular degeneration I'm thinking that I should cut a few more loose. Surprisingly, my wife says not to. Says I worked hard to get them, they are worth at least what I paid for them, and they are likely to go up in the future. Go figure!

Mayor, Would you believe that it took a dozen or so barrels to fill the hole left by that one I sold you. I know about the degenerative thing too....mine is in the lower back, but sometimes I wonder about the same thing...am I going to be able to play w/ my toys. Oh well if I can't my sons & grandsons will have a head start. GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt

These I have:
10" oct 256 win mag
10" oct 44 mag (ouch)
10" bull 44 mag (better)
10" bull 357 Herrett
10" bull 30 Herrett
10" bull 223
14" 7-30 Waters
14" 22lr
On my wish list:
10" oct 22lr
The 256 was my first Contender caliber and that started my hand loading odessy. Once I was loading, there was no reason not to own the classic Herretts. The 223 is my favorite for punching targets since it is so consistently accurate. Following closely in the accuracy department are the 7-30 then the 357 Herrett believe it or not. All are wearing various pistol scopes.
The 14" 22lr is scoped with a 4-10.5x50mm rifle scope and is great fun, but I'd really like to add an octagon barrel with open sights.

Just checked my inventory list. I am not a collector, I just like shooting them too much. Have 8 frames and 63 barrels. Being older has its benefits, means you have had lots of time to a accumulate things that you like.

Well, as I approach retirement - a man of modest means with a couple daughters still at home, I have only 5 barrels. A 10", octagon .45 Colt (walking around gun); a Super 14 in .45 Colt/.410; Super 14 .223; Super 14, 6 groove, .30-30; and a Bullberry 14", match .22 lr.

I collect TC'c and have several frames (including a flat-said and eagle) and barrels in all configurations. My current quest is a complete selection of the type II barrels of which I have 15 and will be making the trek to Oklahoma City next week where I hope to do some horse-trading with Ed to add to that number as I have 10 octagon barrels (including type II’s, III’s and IV’s) for trade fodder. As Walt stated, TC products seem to be a good investment in today's volatile economy.

10" oct. 22 hornet
10" oct. 45/410
12" .357 max hunter
14" T/C custon shop 7X30 waters (my deerslayer)
14" 45 Win Mag
14" .17 Remington
14" Bullberry 30/30 AI
15" T/C custom shop .223
20" MGM stainless 22K-hornet ( I love this barrel!)

12" 357 Maximum
14" 7.62x39
15" 357 Herrett
15" 30-30 AI
24" 222 Rem
I'm trading my buddy the 14" 7.62x39 for his 22" T/C factory 25-20 Winchester and having it rechambered to a 25 Remington rimmed using 25-35 Winchester brass. 25 Remington is a better case design then the 25-35 Winchester.
This will make a nice coyote/deer rifle for my youngest daughter.

I used to have more but decided that I can only shoot 8-10 and the rest just became a "collection". Nothing wrong with collecting and hsts off to those of you who have the time to shoot more than me. One thing I have done is swap off for custom jobs with tight tolerances and chamberings and/or features.

All of my barrels have their origional Iron sights except as follows.
223 super 14 has a rail nount and scope(came with the barrel when purchaced never changed)
45/410 No rear sight silver sodered front no choke(external choke model. the other 45/410 barrel I own has a rear sight as well as the front but the choke won't come off. I've ben thinking about transfering it to the other barrel and use as a 45 caliber pistol barrel and save the choked barrel for shotshells.
The 357 max came with no rear sight when I bought it at a gun show. One of the 2 front sight holes was destroyed when they threaded the barrel for the KBI muzzlebreak. I hope to scope this one. I have a pair of Leupold EER scopes 2x & 4x to choose from for this. I Like Contenders.

Hey 7-30,
Is the 7.62x39 barrel a custom for the Contender. I shoot an Encore pistol in that caliber and would love to have a 7.62x39 for my G-2 carbine. Any info would be appreciated.
