308 vs the 30-06 in Optima Elite
« on: November 25, 2008, 04:29:23 AM »
Considering the rifles have the same barel length and are of the same quality why would one buy a 308 barrel instead of a 30-06 barrel? Speaking of length just what is the overall length of the Elite with a 24 inch barrel? And what do these rifles weight without a scope?

Depends sometimes on what your other guns are. I have a couple of '06 sporter wt. bolt guns & one very serious M700VS in 308 with a 26" Varmit tube, so I choose the OE in 308 to compliment the Rem VS.
Besides, I have had better success with the more moderate case cap. rounds in the break open single shots, whether they are Encores, Handi's or OE. Nothing scientific & I know there are exceptions to this, esp. with a few Encores, but haas worked better for me. I will be testing my OE 308 alot after Deer season, we shall see.
