Thinking of buying a savage 110 mzl

The cheapest place to get one is almost always Natchez Shooting Supplies.  It can be mail ordered since it is a muzzleloader.  I would have prefered to support my local store but Natchez was a lot cheaper and both places were out at the time.  I said I would order from whoever got one first and that was Natchez.

I called them today..Natchez... But I live in another country...State??? Its called ILLINOIS....We cant even buy a mzl loader with out all the paperwork..24hr waiting period..foid card...you name it... I went to a nice sporting goods store in Prairie DuChein Wisconsin.. I wanted that 20 double barrel so bad... The owner appologised and politely tolld me since I live in Illinois he wouldnt even think of selling me a firearm under any circumstances...Just WAY to much paper work..And he has to keep it on file for 10 years ...So I cant mail order it... But I got my profit sharing statement yesterday.. WA-HOOOOO!!!  I will get it in 4 weeks... So the deal is gonna go down!....Drop

I read alot over at Dougs board... Seems like I read they use the 250 gr xtp bullet alot??? I wonder about the performance of a pistol bullet.....I would think the ballistic type would fly better? I use the 250 gr Hornaday sst... With devistating result's....out to 125 yds (so far).. I will be looking for a load as devistating as the sst..where should I start? I will be using this from a tower or my blind..so shots out to 250-300yds are going to be possible... And yes I promise to practice alot before I shoot that far.. Thanks Drop

Savage makes the best inline you can buy.  I wish Remington would make a smokeless inline.

I wouldn't own anything T/C currently makes.  I'm not impressed.

I'm with you Swamp, I don't know why more companies don't make a smokeless muzzleloader.  I've read where Savage has a patent on their breech, but I would think that something like it could be made.  And the 700 would be a great rifle to build it on.

I suspect this is due to state regulations.  Michigan does not allow smokeless powder during our ML season.  I am sure other states have the same restriction.  Too bad, as I would buy the Savage in a heartbeat if I could use it here.

I guess I will stick with the Encore for now.

I see what you are saying Dan.  But, the hunter doesn't have to use smokeless powder in it.  And, like I was ranting about in another thread, if the price of a top end ML is on par with a smokeless ML, then why not just just get the smokeless.  But, I'm stuck in a state that doesn't allow centerfire rifles to hunt with, so my judgement is cloudy.

Still say the Remington 700 would be a great platform for a smokeless ML.  The only other "production" smokeless ML is by Ultra Light Arms, and it starts out at twice the price and a waiting list.

Oh My!  To think that it could have been a 700ML-II!  Makes you want cry....

I made a promise to my wife, my ML WOULD NOT cost more than my work car!  So I'm stuck at a $700 limit!  LOL

Jerry BUY THE SAVAGE!! that way I wont be alone out here..LOL... I am chomping at the bit to get it home but work schedule may limit me to getting it home Sat am.. However I am not going to use it till next season anyway. But the thought of shooting it for about 60 to 75 cents a shot sure does sound good. I am going to put a Leupold VXII 3X9X40 on it. I am already thinking of ways to make a barrel cooler for it. And I have to order up the breech removal tool...base's I already have Warne ring's.. I really wont be able to shoot it til about spring time probably. But I still wanna get it home and drool over it... Keep the fire lit Jerry...Dont settle for what you dont really want... Next deer season for us is a whole year away. Get the foot healed up first. Maybe we can meet up for coffe tween now and then Drop

The good old state of Illinois.  I was there a couple of years ago in a store and ask to look at a gun.  They would not even let me look at it unless I had some sort of "card".  Not sure what it was called, but I was glad to get back to Indiana for my gun buying needs.

I bought a Savage Model 10 this year. I am pleased with it. It shoots most loads with great accuracy. I have been hunting with it for 5 days straight and was wondering if it would fire after dragging it around through the snow and cold. I have not had a shot at a deer so at the end of shooting hours I took a shot at a log, "bang" it went. Very reliable after what I put it through. I am pleased with this rifle and recommend it.

Make your own.  Get the proper sized 1/4" drive socket (I forget the size), with a Dremel tool cut notches in the side and attach a 1/4" universal joint socket and ratchet.  Out comes the breech plug.  I already had all the tools, I just needed to buy the socket to cut up.  Cost about $2-3 dollars.
