Very nice buck - nice long tines.  Congratulations.

The 7mm/08 is one of those under-rated cartridges that can be used for just about any American big game animal with the right bullet.

I like the round a lot, although haven't hunted with it yet. I haven't mounted my new scope on that rifle yet.

I have a Redfield widefield too on my Rem. 7400. It's 22 years old and still works great. Although, it's the only rifle I hunt with and therefore don't know much else as far as scopes go in the field anyway. Mine is a 2x7.

It's an especially good Deer round & does well for medium game at reasonable distances & conditions. Congrats are in order for the Buck & you picked a very nice rifle as well.

thanks guys.
I'm very proud of the deer, 200 yd shot, fair chase, east texas, very exciting hunt after a lot of "no deer sightings" hours. The deer are very safe in extreme deep thick cover and after opening weekend only come out right at dark. I was in a tree lounge and had to shoot quick, then I regretted making a hurried shot, especially right at dark, my worst nightmare looking for a deer. But it worked out. He was on the move with a doe working through a very thick area and I did not have any time.
I confess the brow tines fooled me, but he is a good buck nevertheless, but I should have let him walk.  He definitely winded me, leaned back with his nose in the air.  When I put the binos down I was shakin all over.
I was mad at myself for shooting while I still had the shakes.

Now I can relax and try to get one with my sidekick.  And whatever I shoot with that will be at 100 yds or less and standing on the road.

It looks like the same rifle I have, a model 700 LSS. I love the 7mm/08 , I've been shooting one since 1982 in a couple of different rifles. It is one fine cartridge. :)

Obviously the 120 NBT worked great on this one.  Is it a pretty tough bullet for the 7mm?  I have several boxes I was going to use in a 7-30 Waters, but also have 7mm-08 and 280 I could use it in as well.  I think I read somewhere that it was built for big game, (deer) and could be used at higher speeds with out trouble.  Maybe this should be a question on it's own.  DP

I've had lots of calibers in lots of rifles, but I can say that the 7mm-08 is a very effective cartridge, comfortable to shoot, is accurate, and kills deer size game as well as anything else.  Mine is a Rem LVSF in 7mm-08 (un-catelogued and hard to find).  My rifle is very light yet has a 22" SS fluted barrel.  What a pleasure to hunt with.  Glad my wife doesn't hunt.
