Upgrade 1911 trigger
« on: November 28, 2008, 07:15:30 AM »
Hello all,I am shooting a 1911 Springfield lower and colt md. 70 upper. It is very accurate but the trigger has a lot of creep and breaks at around 6 lbs.The pistol is used mostly for informal target shooting. My question for the experts here is what do you reccomend (that I the novice) should install to improve the trigger ?Thank's,David

A couple of options come to mind: You can buy a matched Hammer/Sear/Disconnector, and a trigger with an overtravel adjustment and install it yourself. Or have a 1911 smith work the trigger for you. Both options will end up costing about the same. I reccomend the second option!

I agree with what Savage said...........Have a competent 'smith that knows 1911's rework your present fire control system.
If your present trigger does not have an over travel adjustment, adding a new trigger that does have one will help to provide better trigger control, but your present hammer, sear and disconnector, if in stock condition, can be easily tuned to provide what your looking for.
For a carry/defense/target gun, I'd ask for a 3.5-4.0 lb trigger with no creep or over travel.

Since i did my own slide work. I plan on doing my own trigger work too.  I plan on installing a new adjustable trigger.  Then all i have to do is moly up the sear faces.  The moly will reduce the trigger pull by up to 50% right away and more as it works in. Using moly on the trigger sears does make it feel like an expensive trigger job was done on it.

have a gunsmith do it. Ask him if its possible that you watch if you want to learn. Its to easy to screw one up and the drop in kits are about good for dropping in the garbage can. theres no such thing as a drop in part on a 1911.
