Wrap your pointing finger around the barrel and hold the stick with the rest of your hand.

I use one hand on the handgun's butt and the other forms a V in the web of my hand between the thumb and index finger which is where I rest the forend.  Don't rest the forend directly on the shooting sticks or the point of impact will probably change.

I shot mine like I do off hand, but just rest the gun's yoke on the shooting stick. Keep your hand off the shooting stick and on the gun.

If you are standing erect, grab the fore arm like Amigo does. When sitting on the ground, I use my knees to help steady the stick and the gun. The Left elbow on the left knee ,right elbow on right knee. The stick near or touching the left leg(actually the point is often against my left foot) holding the gun as Amigo does it is rather easy to hit ground hogs at 200 yards. It does take some practice to just drop into position though!

Why not use a 3-pod?
I need more time "to find out" my mono-pod, than a 3-pod - so I will not be surprised if you find out the similar.

I think you will be more steady - and shoot better.

And if you have time - and can sit down - and rest your back against a tree - you will shoot like it was from a bench.
