Rem Model 12-A

Hey guys,

I have a model 12 that I have not shot in many years but I only shot .22 shorts thru it since that is wants stamped on the bbl,  But the other day I was told by a antique firearms dealer that if it was a model 12-A(it is) and if it dosent have just a triangle to load the magazine tube (it dosent, it has the bullet cut out), then I could shoot .22 short, long and long rifle out of it.  Both the bbl and receiver are stamped 12-A, but the bbl is also stamped .22short.  The SN# is 654xxx.  Any help would be great.

If it is stamped .22 Short only then shoot shorts only. If it says .22 short, long or long rifle then you can use all. If it doesn't say all then use only what it says.

That is the way I have always lived, only put whats stamped on the bbl in the gun, but this guy was so adamant that they never made a 12-A that was only shorts I thought I'd check around.

I think a web search will come up with information about .22 short models. I'm pretty sure I found something of the sort recently. And the magazine tube could have been replaced. I've learned not to be "absolutely positive" about any firearms information.
