A high quality unit, that aimpoint is for sure.
I have a Bushnell Trophy on my 7-1/2" super & really like it.

If you google Weigand+mounts they have a mount for your hunter that will utilize your existing barrel mounts making a drill & tap unnecessary.

I really liked to try the "micro" It seems like a good sight. I have only seen thru one sitting on a rifle.
I have the 9000sc on my smith 29, works great, but it is a big sight.

I used it to take this Bushbuck in Africa.

i have the micro aimpoint as well as about 6 other aimpoints + an unknown amount of other red dot sights . the micro is more compact than all the others except the micros from tasco, burris, pride fowler what i dont like about the other micros is the dot is allways to bright except in the case of the pride / fowler sight its the best of the bunch including the doctor {had them all includung the trupoint} getting back to the aimpoint micro , the field of vew is less than the other aimpoints if this is a issue with you ?  but very useable i would probly buy more if they were less money , i paid $380 for mine last year on ebay i see them now for about $450 and up

thanks for the feedback

I have a CompC3 with the 2MOA dot that I am considering mounting
tried it with one Ruger factory 30mm ring, no go, not stout enough

I have used Ultradots in the past and they hold up
would just prefer something on the rear of the gun vs over the barrel

I did try a Millet 1" 3MOA the other day because it was cheap and very small/light
lasted about 50 rounds

I tried the Ultradot Micro rear dot a couple of years ago on a Smith 41mag, worked well
I just don't trust the self adjusting sights
I want them as dim as possible in low light and Aimpoints have the control to do so

Sig Sauer came out with a Micro clone that can be had for like 175, I don't know if it will hold up to a 44 mag though

Trijicon is coming out with a new MRD, 2 actually, one electronic and one tritium/fiber like an ACOG
I have an ACOG and love and trust it

I have used the trajicon on my 480 and it only lasted about 20 rds before something in it broke...don't know what, dealer gave me my money back.  Then tried the aimpoint....did fine on the 480, no problems, took it off of that and put it on my 500 smith.....not a good idea for me, after about 50 rnds top selector nob flew off I can't remember what model it was...I do remember it was about 80 or so dollars, not real expensive.

After that I read on here I believe that the weiglan magnum mounts and the matchdot ultradot were the way to go....and so far 650 or so rounds after mounting on my 500 it is doing excellent and stays true, only thing is even after locktighting the nuts on the 1/4 inch bolts on the mounts they still sometimes pop loose! AAAHHHH the love of shooting Big bore!! lol gotta love it!

I got the aimpoint online, can't recall for sure the name....seems like optics are us or something like that.  It was quite a while ago....4 yrs or so.  I haven't bought anymore since I bought the ultradot.  I'm not positive of the price and could sure be mistaken, but I know it wasn't anywhere near 300, wife would have thrown a shoe among other things, LOL.  Anyway, I really like the Matchdot Ultradot, really a nice scope and tough also. Thanks

the aimpoints are reputed to be the toughest red dots on the market
reps take em off a gun that's shooting good, throw them across the parking lot, kick em around, mount them back on the gun, drop the gun on the optic and shoot and it's still working and on...  I have never heard of one failing (though I am sure they do)

Can't go wrong with a good reddot :)

For the price of an Aimpoint it would be nice to get a lifetime guarantee.......

Well here you go. I had one fail. The first one I put on my S&W 500 Mag. I blew out the red-dot in under 50 rounds. I was told by Aim-point that it was not designed to hold up to more than a 44 Mag. That was 5 years ago. Maybe they now make them to where they will hold up. But it is to late for me. Ultra-dot has worked for me for more than 5 years now on my 500 Mag. The only red-dot I will truly trust is the Ultra-dot followed by the EoTech on big bore handguns.  ;D

454 killed two of my Aimpoints.

When I got my third (because of the lifetimeguarantee) - I sold it before I opened the package.

My Doctersight - has survived  ;)

Is it like leupold where the optic is guaranteed for life and not the original buyer?

I thought it was only a 5 year( or something) guarantee for the original buyer....

Here it is,

Aimpoint guarantees this product to be free from original manufacturer defects in material and/or workmanship under normal use for a period of 2 years for professional or competition use and 10 years for personal use from the date of purchase. The warranty is valid provided that the sight has not been misused, disassembled or tampered with in any way. Any attempt to disassemble or repair the product will void the warranty. This warranty agreement is limited to the original owner and is not transferable. Any warranty claim must be accompanied by a copy of the original receipt showing date of purchase.

I have a red dot I'm going to try since my brother in law just did the D&T on my 629.  I will just have to see if I like it or not as I have never been a scope or red dot on a revolver before type guy.  I did notice when I had it mounted the other night, you sure notice just how shaky you are.  I don't think I will be able to check this out untill all the snow melts off, and I can sit down and bench it to see.  Until then I took everything off and put my iron sights back on.
