I've got a wife that's mostly Ponca Indian.  She believes it is terribly bad luck to shoot a crow.  I don't do it so I don't stir her up.  Might be the same with badgers.  Don't know.  We don't have them here.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

when i do go back to my mom's and dad home state of Nebraska, it's going to be for some family time and varmint time. So, more then likely i am going to have a bow, slingshot, and airgun(22cal) for this hunting if it's all withen the law. But i don't know, it just a badger and i really don't see a reason to kill besides for it's fur. oh, is badger fur any good, like does it feel nice.

I've shot 5-10 badgers over the 30 years i've been hunting coyotes and they make the most beautiful rugs i've ever seen, IMO, but i f u shoot them before Dec. or so their fur won't be nearly as nice--they take longer to "prime up" than a coyote or fox.

nice, i will remember that. My crosman 2200 can and does kill nutria and beavers down here in FL. the gun i will be using is the 22 Benjamin Discovery  or the talon PCP gun(saved up already and going to get it next week) and both shoot at 1000fps+. these 2 guns can kill a jack rabbit at 100 yards or a ground hog at 70 yards and these power is the same as a 22LR.

Ah Jamal!  Haven't heard from you in a while!  Good to see you posting!   ;)

You had me thinkin there for a minute.  I sold my place in FL some time ago but I never did remember Badgers down there.

I think taking Badgers is a good thing!  I don't know why, I've never even seen one,  :-[  but I've heard stories!   :o  Take 'em with your knife if you want to - you did replace the rusty one didn't you? - just be sure to tell us about it!   ;D

FWIW there are a few of us around yet who shave using a mug and a brush instead of canned lather. Some of the highest quality shaving brushes are made from badger hair.

I think what the guys are trying to tell you Jamal is that you don't want to be anywhere around mister badger if you don't kill him with that first shot. If he just gets ticked off you will have one heck of a problem on your hands. Just think of the tasmanian devil on steroids and a nastier attitude. We used to shoot them in Kansas but we always shot them with something big enough to leave no doubt. So just keep that in mind when you go to blast one of those little spitfires. But in reality they aren't exactly little either.

Nature is a balancing act. Man kind has the "mind" and "technology" to really make a mess. Witness the controversey on global warming. I have killed a badger many years ago. Yes, they are spitfires. If you are taking an air gun, I suggest you also have a club at hand, baseball bat, or spear... And I wish you luck. Far as I know they kill smaller rodents. Ground squirrels, etc. So if the area is infested with pests, you might wish to leave them alone. If you just want to take one for your experience. O.K. Gripe I have heard is that they can make good sized hole that might break legs on horses and cows... MIGHT. Most animals are not dumb enough to step into a hole unless being run. Bump when a tractor wheel drops in... Your life. Enjoy. Happy new year.

alright thanks. I have killed coons with a airgun and nutra and i know people have killed ground hogs with airgun with 658fps so ,1200fps to the head at 50 yards or less should put it down.

Unless they are a real pest....rooting, reeking havoc.....I don't know why you'd kill a badger.........I see them in S Texas on occassion...just like porcupnes.....THEY are HUGE suckers down there....but I never felt like I needed to kill one......coyotes , yes,
feral hogs , you bet....on sight....bunnies or jackrabbits if they are in extreme abundance , ( towards being a real pain ) ..sure................but a badger??
I just cant see a good reason ..........

Didn't they use to breed the dashound specifically for routing badgers out of their dens?

what is to tell? i was hunting rats with my airgun and i saw something swimming in the water. I waited to see what came out(we have swap rabbits and they swim) and a large monitor came on to the bank. i have hunted them before and i know there very hard to kill  like a buffalo or crocodile and the gun i had was my 760(i use my 2200 which is a .22cal that shoots at 600fps or more) but i try ed anyways( i had some Crosman Pointed,Gamo Tomahawk and Rocket, also some Daisy Max Speed steel tips). I put a daisy steel tip in it's eye but it swim off and i fired 3 more shots but it got away. If i had my crsoman 2200 it would be dead because it the past it's been used on them and it kills like the devil.

used the right gun for the job. The 22cal class of airguns are very powerful and can kill most game(rats-groundhog and others).

Buddy,
I would stick one with a broadhead from that bow of yours(and have) before I would take on one with a "rat shooter", especially at 50 or 100 yards. I've killed a half dozen of them, usually incidental to other hunting. The most recent was last year at about 125 yards with the 30-30 savage, first shot must have been close because he turned to fight and the second one just flopped him.
I don't think you'll be that lucky to catch one out in the open very easy.  If you do see one it will most likely not be a mature one as the young ones are dumber about getting caught out in daylight in the open.
They tear up a lot of pastures, hayfields, farm terraces and even golf courses digging for ground squirrels, gophers, etc, so yes they are destructive. When more small farms used to have a chicken coop the fox couldn't even hold a candle to a badger when it came to killing chickens.
Good luck with your badger hunting expedition! ;)

I'm sorry Jamal... I've just got to ask.   ;)  Is this the same rat hunting place you set on fire and is this the same water near thereto that you swam with the rats to escape said fire?   :-\

You weren't posting very much there for a while, glad you are back!   ;D  This question was for the benefit of the many new members we have here!   ;)

no, that crazy mess happen in lakeland. besides, i probably should not go back there ;D i did i lot of crazy things in the pasts because i was fearless but now, i rethink things before doing them.

i just got my Benjamin Discovery Air Rifle  and it's Smokin' Aces. i took out a clay ball about the size of a 1/2 $ at 75 yards with it. it shoot like a 22LR and looks to have a lot of power.  with this gun  i will be the Hatred Guy of Sinfulness  to the varmints. I have a coon skull and i full it up with wet clay and shot it at 45 yards and about 5 out of the 8 pellet bands i was using pass thought.

this is the gun you need for airgun of big varmints.

badgers are easy to kill with a pellet gun if yu know the SWEET SPOT in the skull.they are also delicious when boiled in a pressure cooker and then cooked in a croc pot for 2 days with sum bbq sauce. try it yull like it!the fur makes a nice robe if yu sew bout 10 of them together.its very thick and luxurious and makes a nice prickly blanket for your significant other.
