While I agree with this I feel all states need to do like Alaska.  We are a right to carry state, and we can carry concealed without a permit.  We can carry openly if we want to, but we can also carry concealed which seems to work better.  Like when I walk into Wal-Mart, people get upset if my gun is showing, but if it is concealed the Mamas with little babies don't know and don't get upset.  Yet most people know there is several people carrying in the store at all times.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Sourdough,  You gonna' keep on telling hunting stories, and telling good things about Alaska until you force me to move, and thats a long way for this Jawja boy.  Ya'll got a spare room?

Yep, That's the way it should be in all states. Concealed or open carry. I think this would rid the country of some of these worthless punks robbing and raping.

Ron0777, I agree with the law also. I will sign up as will my wife and even my 77 year old mother. It is a strong message to hoodlums when a person is carrying open. It is a right up front sign saying "leave me the hell alone".
Born and raised Texas, and the Texas State Rifle Ass. just gets better and better, and they work hard for us down here.

I don't have a dog in this fight but I am more comfortable carrying concealed and would likely not change this mode.

The NRA has claimed for years, and I agree that the simple act of showing that one is armed stops a lot of crime.

You can now carry a handgun IN YOUR CAR CONCEALED without a permit. Unless your a convicted felon, and a few other restrictions concerning criminal record.
As far as on your person, you HAVE TO HAVE a concealed carry permit.

I signed.  I believe it should be our option to carry open or concealed.  I still think it is important to require a license.  I've been in some classes that had some folks that really didn't need to be carrying and at least we can weed out some of them.  Of course, I'm well aware that folks that want to carry will still do that, but having a licensing requirement should help keep the bleeding heart liberals at bay.

In these parts, it is legal to carry openly on your person as long as all the other legalities are complied with--like being old enough and not a felon, etc.  I'd have to read the laws again to be sure, but I think you can also carry a weapon exposed in your vehicle, but it can't be loaded unless you have a concealed pistol permit.

Anyway, I don't feel a bit conspicuous openly carrying out in the boonies, or even in a small town--especially during hunting season, but you can't help feeling a little overdressed if you're strolling down the street in a larger burg with a shooting iron on your hip.  However, when we are in Arizona, it is not unusual at all to see a lot of heat being discreetly carried--openly.  I love it.

Like Dee, I was born and raised in Texas but left long ago. It was a matter of economics. I couldn't find a decent job in west Texas and I did in New Mexico. Open carry in your home county was still legal when I left. Don't know why it changed.

I still travel to Texas, wife goes to a cardioligist there and we both have relatives. I notice that a lot of businesses and every doctor's office and all the hospitals we have been in prohibit concealed carry. Must be quite a hassel to carry concealed and obey the law.

Since the changes to the definition of "traveling" and carrying I have gone back to carrying a pistol in my car when going to Texas. The traveling thing seems to be working. My grandson was stopped this year coming home on the weekend from collage for going a little fast. His pistol was lying in the passengers seat. The officer checked him out, returned his gun, told him he was legal, and also told him to slow down a little and have a nice day.

I don't object to open carry at all, but for me, I carry concealed. Open carry to some folks would seem as a challenge to fight, I'd rather do it quietly and make the punks wonder, does he??? Or doesn't he??? POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

I prefer to walk softly and carry a hidden piece. That being said it is a right as an american to carry openly and i support others right to do so

Interpreted the way the founders intended it, I believe, we have the right to "keep, and bear" arms.  Thats not just have them, but carry them.  There should be no need to have this conversation on line.  If our law makers were doing their job, it would just be a matter of personal choice whether to carry, and how.

In Georgia, we can carry unconcealed in our car.  I also carry a handgun when hunting in a visible holster, and I have no permit.  I have met with officers several times (DNR officials), who have not said a word.  I do not carry other than that as a rule.  If I travel, no matter the state, my gun is in my briefcase, and my hotel room.  I spent some time near Fort Bragg, in a very "shady" area.  After the first day, the gun was hidden on my person.  I figured at least I might be alive to fight the weapons charge.  Thankfully it was not needed, and I'm sure thats always our hope.

I wish we could get enough people together to bring legal action against local and state governments, to make them face this issue and back off the people's rights.  However, I know that much public sentiment, and the incoming administration make this probably impossible.

In Va. you can carry open if the city has a population of under a 100000 or anywhere out side of the cities for the most part. If you have a ccp you can carry in the cities that don't allow other carry . While hunting you can carry open if it is a legal weapon to hunt with of course with a ccp you can carry any handgun . Now if hunting and it rains or such you can cover the handgun with your coat or such . you can carry open in a bar if not drinking , concled in a bar if you work there but not if you don't . These are a few of our laws , ya'll think that's what the founding fathers ment ?
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
