I am 54 four years old. I remember these same sentiments in the early 80s. The DOW average is 10 times now what is what then, not counting dividends. I think buying stocks in American companies would probably be smart right now.

Bloomberg says if you over 30yoa, to NOT get into the stock market. You may not live long enough to see a profit. I agree with Bloomberg, but if ironfoot buys in, I hope he buys in BIG, and maybe D.C. won't have to give them MY TAX DOLLAR. Whadayathink? ;D

Easy way for me was to put in a solar well pump when the existing pump went kaput.  Cost some bucks but that house still has water and it doesn't cost anything per month.  Later this year I may put one on the old well at the top of the hill on our property.  That would give a very low volume irrigation system if I run the drip lines right.  I figure I can turn a non-productive area into something that might actually grow grass or maybe a garden.  I won't live there for a few years since I'm still in Germany but long-term improvements never hurt.

Solar water pump is a big investment compare to utility version. Not worth the expense unless you are remote and power is an issue to run. If you have utility, stick with utility. There are better ways to invest in solar than this applicatonPumps draw a lot of power, bu only operate maybe 30 - 45 minutes a day.

OK is a good place for wind turbines.

A modest system using wind and solar combined with a diesel generator runs 25-30k. That cheap if you live a mile or more from the grid at $10 per foot.
