see, this is why you have to shoot deer with a 50mm anti-tank rifle and not no wimpy little .270...

everyone knows the bullets just bounce off...

My wife and daughter are completlely against hunting. They would say chalk one up for the deer. I can't tell you how many times I have heard from my wife, if you want it to be fair give the deer a gun too. Dale

Well sounds to me he needs to go to the range and practice some more, takeing 2 shoots to knock the deer down is not to good of a marksmen in my book all is needed is 1 well placed shot. and i think he deserved it not checking and makeing sure the deer is dead from the rear.dont sound to me like he gave the deer time enough to die,and walked up on the deer after the shot to fast
1 shot 1 kill

Dale, just out of curiosity, does your wife and daughter eat meat of any kind, or are they vegetarians? If they are, that is an opinion they are most certainly entitled to. But if they eat 'burger's,hot dogs, bacon, or any other meat out of the store, they are just being hypercritical. Somebody has to kill it. It doesn't grow on tree's. gypsyman

My wife will not eat any beef. Other than that she eats everything else. I have told her the same thing that someone had to kill it. Dale

The first time my wife was present on a kill, she went out and helped an old friend start the dressing job on a bull Moose.  As she was holding up a hind leg so he could remove the diaphragm and intestines, he looked at her and asked what she was thinking.  She looked him straight in the eye and said "All them steaks".  She is good at skinning, stay out of her way or she'll cut you.  And shooting birds, I have to keep count and take her shotgun away when she shoots both our limits.

When we were married she was an anti hunter.  So what I am saying here guys is it's up to you.  The way you present it and taking them along and making it fun for them.  Breaking them in to the shooting and dressing part slowly, but in a way to show it is a necessary part of the hunt.  Today my wife gets as excited as a young person making their first hunt.  Yet even though she gets excited, she don't miss.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

"Fire one good shot and then wait 30 minutes" That's what my step dad taught me.
I have never taken a second shot at a deer. I can't say I make it the whole 30 minutes though :)

That second shot scares the deer more than harms them and running up to see them is just as bad.
You'd be suprised how far they can run on adrenaline.
Even more surpriseing is how calm they can be after being shot once. I watched a doe lick the wound once.
