.243 Hornady Roundnose
« on: December 03, 2008, 10:37:19 AM »
I found some Hornady .243  100 gr. Roundnose for 13 dollars a box. I think they would do great on deer say 100-150 yds. Does anyone else load them or ever try them, I have used Speer 105 gr and Rem Corelokts 100gr and usually they make a decent exit wound. I think these bullets loaded at about 2800 fps would be pretty awesome. Just checking to see if anyone has any experience with them.
Thanks

A little bit oddball shooting RNs in a 243 but if you are using your 243 as a brushgun where you know the ranges are going to be short I would think it would work good. We all say we understand that the big fat brush busters are a myth, lots of tests have shown so, but then we grab our 45-70s when we leave the house. I haven't had much experience with any roundnoses, but they had a very good reputation back in the stone ages before the became almost extinct

They we're my favorite deer round befor I sold my .243 those big round noses hit hard and are plenty deer accurate out to about 300 yards, I've never had a shot that far so I can't tell you how well they worked at long range. Worked real good up close thou.

I love them!!  My loads with them have shot about a doz deer in the past couple years. Three so far this year. (None by me  :-[)

I really like all Hornadys RN's from the little 24 up to the 45/70 350's!!  the 7mm 154 and 35 200 have accounted for the most. My shots are 98% with in 200 yards. Thru and thru performance with many many bang flops. If your shots are with in 300 yards as Bob mentioned, This bullet would be my first choice.

I load them in the 243 infront of IMR 4350 and a CCI 200 primer.

I loaded Hornady round noses for my wife's Handi.  She killed a big doe at 50 yards, through both lungs.  The deer ran 10 yards.  I would buy them again.
