Just  wondering who makes the fastest shooting hardest hitting ammo for a 300 mag, Also is there any ammo for it on the market that matches or comes close to the 300 rum ballistics?  thanks..

That question isn’t as easy to answer as you might think.  “Fastest shooting” and “hardest hitting” are not always synonymous.  Lighter bullets are usually faster but they typically don’t carry as much energy and lose both velocity and energy faster than heavier bullets.

Also, there are variations due to differences in the bullet’s ballistic coefficients, even with bullets of the same weight but different velocities  – the bullet with the most velocity or energy at one range may be different than the bullet with the most at a different range.

If I was shooting factory ammo it would be the Federal 180g loads with either the Barnes MRX or Trophy Bonded Tip.

Also is there any ammo for it on the market that matches or comes close to the 300 rum ballistics?  thanks..

For full-power RUM loads?  No.

I have a Win Mag 300 and I also have the 300 Rum. The best bullet for the 300 Win Mag

in my opinion is the 180 gr bullet after you find figure out the best coefficents for your

rifle. Have fun!!

I went to federal's site  and looked at the ammo above and it looked good but with a price of about $70 per box.. WOW...  does and one know of any factory ammo with good performance but a lower price tag??

One of the 'problems' with fast magnums like the .300 is their velocity.  Standard cup-and-core bullets often don't hold up well on impact, especially the lighter-for-caliber types as they mve even faster and have less mass to start with.

Good reason to reload - you can shoot premium ammo for the cost of standard .30-06 ammo.

I reload all of my ammo. Because the bought kind is a real expence and that way you can load to the volicity you want. Are you going to reload?
