Sig p226 VS Beretta 92
« on: December 04, 2008, 07:48:46 PM »
Im planning on getting another 9mm for general shooting and carry. Which one is the better pistol... the sig sauer p226 or the beretta 92? I like the looks of both of them. I have heard real good things about both also, but have heard a FEW bad things about Beretta though! I want something reliable and something I can trust. Any Opinions????

This is probably the best and closest comparison, I carried a Baretta 92fs for some time and really liked it, however I did let it go Never owned a 226 but have handled several that were brought into pawn but never took one home, I do own several Sigs, 229s and 239 and I believe that they are of the 2 brands my choice.   Jim

I'm gonna say that for the money a 92fs is the winner. You are a lucky man if you wear one out, but I have heard that Beretta is not known for customer service if there are problems down the road. I have three Sigs 239, 225, and a 2340, I like them all and would undoubtedly get the 226 for myself.  I like the commonality of the controls and ability to switch from the smaller carry size to a full size weapon without having to train on a new manual of arms.

I carried the M9 (92F) for over a decade, and was issued an M11 (Sig P228) closer to the end of my enlistment.  I personally preferred the M11 for its balance, weight, and comfort in my hand.  I also liked its ability to recover point of aim quicker than the M9 ever did for me.

The Navy Seals used the Beretta but du to the extreme use and number of rounds they fire. The Beretta had problems with cracked slides. They switched to the sig 226. However,, most of us are not Navy Seals. So the Beretta will do just fine. A friend of mine has a 92fs. He was feeding it suspisiuos reloads when Boom.. Mag destroyed part of the grips were damaged and some parts fell off. But that is not the guns fault. He sent it in bought a few parts and it was inspected and returned. All is well! I didn't hear him complain about their service! I like the sig. All I have for sigs is a P220. Have been drooling over a 226 for a while but that is just another mouth to feed. Do I really need to bring yet another caliber into my home?
