compensating scopes for sportster 17 hmr
« on: December 05, 2008, 06:24:01 AM »
I just bought a H&R Sportster in 17 HMR.;
I have read the comments on the BSA scopes but would like to know how the BSA and Barksa "sweet 17" scopes compare.
Any other suggestions in the $100 range would be appreciated
Thanks for any comments

i have the 'sweet 17' on my sporster .17HMR bull barrel and it works just fine.

i hear lots of controversy involving the BSA optics but they do offer limited lifetime warranty. that says something for them.

i have a number of leupold scopes, simmons, barska and bushnell scopes and they all seem to work fine.

I have a BSA Sweet-17 On my H&R Sportster.  It is dead on at 100 yards,  At 200 yards it is about 1 1/2" low.  At 300 yards it is dead on again.  I don't have a problem with that, seems everything I shoot is either 50 to 100 yards, or on out at 300 yards.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I weighed"all" the options and finally paid more than I had planned ( $160 at optics store)
I got a Muller 8.5-25X40 AO tactical with a mil dot reticle.
Reasons
more versatile as it can be used on anything except large magnums
Mil dot allows flexibility and will help in windy conditions AND ONLY COVERS 1/4 INCH AT 25x MAGNIFICATION AT 1OO YARDS
Will focus down to 15 yards
Good name and quality.
limited lifetime warranty.

That's an awful lot of scope for the 17 but if it works for you what the hay. I got the same scope on my 225win Ultra Handi. Kurt
