Slug performance report
« on: December 05, 2008, 08:00:31 AM »
Well, I have some terminal ballistic experience now with the Lightfield 3 inch Hybred Elite (550 gr at 1730 fps) which is the most accurate load in my 870.                                    #1 One large buck deer at about 120 yards, quartering shot from front, through shoulder missing the big bone, through heart and both lungs.  No exit but bullet not found after considerable search, wonderful wounding performance.                                      #2 Coyote at about 35 yards.  Entered though shoulder and did not exit.  Bullet pieces found under hide on far side, with large area rib destruction on both sides.  Found maybe 2/3 of large bullet in two, third circles.  Bullet made donut then separated when it got too thin I guess.                                                                                                            #3 Medium buck deer at about 100 yards, entered  shoulder behind big bone and angled slightly back missing off side shoulder.  Parts of bullet found under hide on off side, in same condition as #2.  Maximum expansion as advertised, but does not hold together.  Would be better in slower 2 3/4 inch version of this load I would think.
Please post any terminal performance you come up with.
