Walmart must of made a deal with RCBS.
« on: December 06, 2008, 02:29:17 AM »
Walmart must of made a deal with RCBS. I was just at Walmart picking up a box of shotgun shells and noticed they have a reloading section now. They feature all RCBS products. They even sell powder. They had a pound of Vangret for $22.50 or so. It was $22 something. Is that a good price? They did not have any bullets or primers for sale though. I wonder why. I think this is a good thing. Do any of your Walmarts have reloading supplies? Dale

I have not seen it the local Walmarts. I have to travel 30+ miles to buy a gun at a Walmart. The locals have a small selection of ammo for sale along with some cheap scopes a few slings and some cleaning supplies. That is about it as far as gun stuff goes.

The  2 in my area have less each year.
last year they had lots of cleaning oils, brushes, slings, etc.
this year I broke a sloted cleaning tip and had to order one as
nobody had one.they don't even have shot gun cleaning pathes.
mine are cutting way back and are all crap holes,I just order stuff
I don't waste my time to go look,as they won't have any thing I need.
the one does not even handle guns.if I need these  simple things I must
drive 40+ miles each way and with gas cost I can order from midsouth cheaper.

Yes, $22 dollars a pound is a little cheaper than I've seen it around here.  Honestly, the reloading powders at the local Sportsman's Warehouse are a bit slim right now.  I'd love to see walmart seel reloading supplies as I might have a reason to shop there again.

I gave up on Kmart when they pulled out of the gun business.  I gave up on walmart for the same reason.

The Wal-Mart in Midland, TX has reloading supplies. Not a huge selection but the manager told me he would order anything I wanted. Pretty nice guy. Kind of far away but my wife has to be in Midland every four to six weeks for a blood test so it works out pretty good. Large difference in price with the local gunshop and John doesn't carry much reloading stuff anyway.

Some of the larger Supercenters in AR have carried reloading supplies for a good while now, but keep in mind where WM is based. But here they stock alot of Nosler, Sierra & Hornady bullets & yes primers. They don't keep Accubonds but they have ordered them for me.

Our wal-mart is in Cordova, near Memphis. The locals have been trying to get them to curtail weapons/ammo sales. They don't have a reloading section, but the sporting goods manager is an excellent
guy. When the populous went nuts to buy all the sporting goods stores out of ammo, (instead of always having it to begin with) He had been ordering extra, ahead. Sportsmanswarehouse was empty, even cheaper than dirt. But not the Cordova sporting goods department. Now the store management thinks he is some sort of marketing guru because of all the sales they have done. I am hoping they let him get reloading supplies now.

Our WalMart here in WINCHESTER VA does not carry reloading stuff but they do sell guns and lots of ammo, mostly Remington with some Winchester.
Same goes for our KMART.

It ain't political correctness, it's purely money.  Wal-mart stores have a certain square footage, and they will carry products that provide the most profit per square foot.  For some stores, gun sales were strong enough to justify having them there.  Other stores.... not so.  That's why some wal-marts have guns and some don't.

what wal-mart stores carry is a store managers decision. The manager of your store can carry anything that he want to from wal-marts considerable product line including guns and reloading supplies the manager of the local store got rid of guns and reloading equiptment and it is the store closest to the rural areas, the downtown store in the middle of suburbia still has both so go figgure.

Not true. Corporate decides who sells what. There are a few items that mgt can order not on the mod but very little of that. Spcl orders, sometimes, but all stocking items must be approved by corporate. My store quit the fabric dept cause corporate said to, but not all have quit fabrics, just the ones that corporate chose. They cloed the door on a lot of business, the Amish used to be a good part of our sales, they left when fabrics left. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

After my recent experience with Wal-Mart, I wonder how any of them continue to sell guns.
I wanted a Cricket rifle for my niece. They were selling at Wal-Mart for $110, instead of the $150 I'd seen at local gun shows. It took 45 minutes to complete the sale, since the clerk behind the gun counter couldn't sell guns, the "manager" who eventually showed up had to fill out not only the federal form and get clearance, he filled out all the company paperwork before going to get the box. Then he called for another manager to countersign. As the second manager walked me out the front door with my purchase, I voiced a complaint about the delay. She started to blame the federal paperwork, and I cut her off, telling her I had purchased other guns in the last year, and it took ten minutes tops---that it was Wal-Mart's incompetent sales practices that had held me up, starting with putting someone at the gun counter who couldn't sell guns.
Never again.

I have purchased exactlu two firearms from Wal-Mart. My local dealer carries neither gun because he can't compete witth their price. Can't say I blame him.

The first purchase took a long time even though I was the only one purchasing a firearm. The clerk was working in the summer as she was a school teacher. How do I know? She told me after she went over the federal form like it was a term paper she was grading. No mistakes and after the ATF OK she went to the back and returned with the wrong gun which I had to point out to her. Called another salesperson and after several minutes of discussion back to the back she went and returned with the right gun this time. Each trip took about fifteen minutes. She then called for a manager to walk me out. After about twenty minutes of waiting on a manager she spied one walking down another isle and called him over. All in all the purchase took well over an hour.

The last purchase took almost as long but I could kind of understand why. It was the day before dove season and everyone but me was buying a gun to go hunting the next day. I just happened to be fourth in line. The sporting goods manager was handling things and did a pretty good job of it. It still took almost an hour. I can understand the wait on this one but the first time was just poor service.

Our Wal-Mart has a huge selection of guns, but if you want one they have to order it.  They will not sell one of their display models.  Last week I wanted to buy a birthday present for the wife.  She wanted a Taurus Mallinum 9MM.  Wal-Mart had one but they would have to order one and it would take three to five days.  I went to Sportsman's they had one and sold it to me then.

ATF kept messing with the big gun shop in Fairbanks.  She got so fed up she decided to close shop, just when Wal-mart and Sportsman's opened up.  They don't have near the selection she had.  She also did a lot of business in consignment guns, now the only gun shops left are small and don't want to mess with consignments, or do special orders.
