anybody know where I can get a recoil pad for a #3 ?

The No 3 uses the same recoil pad as the mini 14 or 10/22  It will add about an inch to the over all of the stock.
Sounds like some one has tried some hot loads in thier 45-70.

Check Midsouth (they are sponsors here), Midway, Brownells, cabelas or your local gun shop.  While you may pay a few $ more at your local shop it will help to keep them around.

How'd you ever guess !!!???????? I would like something to fit the curve of the stock. I guess one could adapt one of these.

No adapting needed.  It just screws in. If I remember right it's juust the three screws.  On on top and two in the flat part of the butt pad.
I wish Ruger would bring back the No.3.  Great little rifle.

As posted above, they fit your stock exactly like the issue buttplate does - no fitting, etc.
