in Vermont was a success and both of us havested a Russian Boar. Met Dr.Doug RX and his pal Dave along with several other fine hunters on this trip. It all happened so fast, when we saw the hogs, that I didn't take the time to unholster my Mountain Gun but, shot the hog with my Marlin .35 Remmy. Codos to six_gunz for the photo.

You guys are trying the best that you can to get me to spend some money in 09'...I don't know if this is good or bad but I can hear my traditional .50 smokepole along with my S/A's calling my name now!
What kind of hunt are we talking about on the boar's? sounds like stalk & spot?...and finally, gulp, how much does a hunt like this cost?

I might also like one of the Coyotes. I would probably be out there calling while you guys are playing poker but be sure to keep the coffee hot!

Hey Glance....

You are welcome to come if we do it again!! The coyote was bonus...wrong place...wrong time. We can shoot all we want if we see one...sorry...no evening or organized hunt for them on the preserve. The basic boar hunt, which gets you a boar around 200lbs +/- 25lbs is about $750. Includes 3 nights lodging and 7 or 8 meals and guides who work with you, gut and transport the boar to the butcher. The butchering is $110 and everything is skun, packed and wrapped and labeled just like the supermarket. Winter is the best time for boar because of their hide and size, but anytime is fine. Really big hogs like the one I shot...PM me.

OK so now I'm depressed.....went to the taxidermists yesterday with the boar and we laid the hide out flat on a table to measure for a full mount and it AIN'T gonna work. The measurement from nose to the root of the tail is 67 inches, the girth is 25 inches and the nose to eye is 9 1/2 inches. That means he'd need to splice about 10" or more on the back end and remove and add a smaller head to create a manikin that's correct for the size...not to mention the extra $$$$$ for all the extra work. So...just another really big shoulder mount.

Maybe next year we shoot a "smaller" one!!

I forgot about that place. Doug, I remember reading your post about it a year or so ago. Looks like a lot of nice scenery and good game. What kind of acreage does the preserve have?

After your recent post about your bear at Oxbow too, I really think I'm going to get serious about making a trip Boston to visit my parents and a trip to Maine to visit my uncle...no hunting though...HA HA. We'll see how business goes in early 2009.

The place is 5K acres. Nice weekend hunt with the guys...heck...they can and do handle wives as well!!!

Yup, I have been ther a couple times too. Nice place, O'l Bill Rectum runs a nice preserve!!

Last trip up for pigs, we all requested BIG PIGS... Bill got us what we wanted!! I had the smallest at 375, My one buddie got a 430Lb'er and the third guy in opur group got a realy big big boy @ 525lbs..... Fun times great place.

Bill was actually one of Fred Bears guides for Alaska back in his day. He's done some things that most only dream of doing. Very nice accommodations at this lodge. Meals were mostly wild game (taken on the preserve) and delicious!

In his early days he was very hard to deal with,,,,seems to have mellowed with age. He was rather vague about what he had and how big but not the price. Suffice it to say it's been much better in hospitality and animal quality over the last 10 years so I go back ( and I could probably afford to go almost anywhere). Yep.....he's mellowed.

That's good to hear... Wasn't "my kind of guy" when we last met... a BIT too arrogant and full of himself.
Back in the early '90's he overstepped his bounds a bit, with a member of our party. You need to know know us. But in short, we where all top competitive pistol shooters and experienced hunters. All with some level of professional training. (Law enforcement and US military) Some of us with training to train, trainers with a handgun. Bill selected the most diminutive looking guy in our group, a 20year police Capt, and 10+ year Marine. Bill attempted to "educate" him on the topic of personal defence with a handgun... Well, to say the least it got a bit "heated".

Bill didn't talk to us for the remaining time we where there.

We still had a good time and it was a great place as long as Bill kept to him self. We have talked about going back. Maybe one day.
