Has anybody spent sometime shooting the New Model 70.

I have a new model 70 featherweight in 270 and it is a great shooter,at 60 yards i put three shots  in a one by one sq.inch.Also got two deer with it so far.

Haven't shot one yet, but I felt one up at the shop the other day.  It was a Featherweight in 30/06 and it felt very nice.  Fit and finish was excellent.

I will be watching this with great interest too.

How are the stocks? They look at pictures a bit clumsy compared to older Winchester stocks, especially the buttstock of the new Featherweight.

The one I checked out felt great.  It was just like the older Featherwieght stocks.  I was very impressed and it is on my short list of rifles to buy.

The only magazine review I've seen of one so far spoke glowingly of it's accuracy then reported actual group sizes of mostly over 2" at 100 yards for three shots and some over 3". I seem to recall the very smallest group shot with it was around 1.5". Yup real accurate.

I agree that's bad for 100 yards.

The quality of newly made American bolt guns is running the same course as the American auto industry.

I love the feel of Winchester M70s, but I will not pluck down the price they are asking simply because it has a Made in USA logo stamped on it.  If this is the best they can do with accuracy, they are in trouble in today's competitive market.

Maybe they can get the taxpayer's to bail them out . . . .

 I have held exactly 2 of them . Both featherweights one in 270 and the other in 30-06. Compared to the crap posing as post 64 Winchesters they were selling until 2005 they are heads and tails above them. They seem exceptionally well made and put together. I will be purchasing one soon probably the new version of the sporter LT in 7mm rem mag. Very nice gun. FOr those that complain of their pricing have you purchased or looked at the prices Remington is charging nowadays? Probably not would be my guess.
