Pedersoli Pennsylvania .45cal. perc.
« on: December 08, 2008, 07:07:48 AM »
I came across a Pedersoli Penn. percussion rifle .45cal.  It is fourteen years old but in new(possibly not shot condition).  I picked it up took it apart to clean and re lube.  It was spotless looks unfired.  Does anyone have any experience with this particular rifle.  I am looking forward to trying it out this weekend.

I have a Dixie/Pedersoli Penn. in .45 that I bought 4 years ago. It has a brass patch box and a 41"1/2 x 13/16 barrel. If not the same they should be similar. Very accurate, 1" groups at 100 yards from a rest . Currently my favorite rifle. Mine was a flint originally but I converted it to cap lock last winter.

Thanks for the reply.  I hope mine will be as good.  If you have any load info. powder, patch thickness, etc. that you can pass along, it would be appreciated.    Thanks,  Walt

In real bp I use 70grs. of 3f gfoex, .015 thick patch  lubed with bore butter and a .440dia. home cast bullet.  Since converting to caplock I use 60grs. of 3f triple 7, (fouls less, more shots), and same patch and ball. I tried .010 patches but they didnt hold up well through the bore. Cant tell any accuracy difference between real bp and triple7. I have found that while pyrodex can be accurate you have to increase the load to get the same accuracy, and I would think velocity.
