In the  3  reload manuals I have they break 4570 loads into 3 groupes Trapdoor-1895 marlin and ruger1.Where does the buffalo classic fit in? I would guess it would be in with the marlin for load data .I assume they are above limits of the trap door and not as stought as a RUger 1.any advice?

You can shoot any of the listed loads out of the BC.
Your shoulder will give up before the gun will. ;)
Unless you are like Tyke and like the punishment. ;D

Speaking of Tyke, where is the young man?  Hope that 45-120 didn't hurt him, and put him in the Dr. office. :D  DP

This is the first time I have ever seen statements that Ruger #1 loads can be used for a BC.  Am I understanding that right? ???

Matt, you may want to read this thread ... http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,62368.0.html

The loading data respective to the 45-70 is based on the action's capability to handle the CUP's of the Springfield's - Marlins - Winchester '86's and the Ruger actions.  The whole subject centers on the strength of the various rifle's actions.  Lyman's Reloading Handbook has good explanations of the loading data for the actions of the mentioned rifles

Now, factor in recoil:  At the higher velocities, the pressure is going to be up in the 35,000 plus range.  Question to ask yourself is ... do you really want to endure the felt recoil of the H&R at these higher pressures?

Personally, the velocities in the manuals for the Springfield actions are plenty good to shoot accurately at 1000yds and provide a kill factor to dispatch any game on the North American continent

For black powder loads - the H&R will be totally safe for any of the 45-70 case lengths - but the felt recoil again will be brutal firing the 45-110 and 45-120 (if one were to re-chamber the rifle)
Regards
