dumb question on drifting sights

Got a replacement rear sight assembly for installation on a modern Browning 1885. Looks like a standard 3/8" dovetail. Are factory rear sights supposed to be driven out from left to right (looking from butt forward to muzzle)? Or does it even matter?

Thanks for the information. So is the dovetail cut to be slightly undersize at the left side?
Followup question-the new rear sight has a pointed set screw at the base. Do I need to drill a shallow hole on the barrel so the set screw has a place to go or just screw it on the barrel as is?

The male dovetail on replacement sights with a setscrew like that is made slightly undersize, in order to facilitate installation & windage adjustments.

Slide it in, center it, and temporarily tighten the setscrew, unless it needs to be loosened to move the sight when the rifle is zeroed later.

Dovetails ALWAYS drift in from the right to the left
when looking down the barrel, as shooting the gun
