20 gauge Hornady SST Slugs report
« on: December 10, 2008, 02:03:53 AM »
Hi All,

I just finished up our gun season in here in Ohio. I took a 3 1/2 yr old doe at 75 yards with Hornady SST slugs, in my 20 gauge USH. Performance was great! She only went 40 yards after being heart shot.

The next day I took a 2 1/2 year old doe at 50 yards. Again performance was great! She only went 30 yards after a double lung shot. This USH and Hornady SST slugs make a great combination.

Good hunting, and shooting, with your USH Tom.  Hope you have continued success for the remainder of the season.

I shot 4 does this year with the stated combo.  All deer were standing broadside or walking slowly broadside.  Shots were 120-150 yds at the lung area.  All shots passed through deer, showed controlled expansion and good organ trauma without jelly or extensive damaged meat.

I found that little plastic tip in a couple deer.  No deer ran more than 50 yds after being hit.  I was disappointed with blood trail on one...she ran into the woods and we had trouble finding her, but she was close to where I shot her.  Blood trail didn't matter on the others.  They were either DRT or within sight of the spot where I shot them.

<edit> I added #5 tonight.  125 yds.  Good blood trail.  Deer ran about 50 yds and died in front on me.  I like the 20 ga USH @ Hornaday SST slugs.
