Day In The Woods
« on: December 10, 2008, 03:39:52 PM »
I spent Sunday in the woods.  I knocked a big grey squirrel off the roots of a Bay tree with my NEF Pardner and cooked him up in a little dollar store stainless pot that I carry at all times.  I had a package of Mexican flavored macaroni & cheese in my pack which went well with it.  Washed it down with some Crystal-Lite mixed up in my Clean Canteen.  A little Target trail mix for dessert was swell.  They've nearly cut and burned all my old haunt but my ancient campsite was left alone and the river bottoms still stand.  Sorry for the crummy cell phone pics.

Those are some of the best "crummy cell phone" pics I have ever seen.  No apologies necessary.  I am envious...what a great way to spend a Sunday.  Sounds like a great meal, as well.
Thanks for sharing, Swampman.

What ga. shotgun?

That's a 12 gauge Turkey Gun with a laminated NWTF stock and interchangeable chokes.

I recognise the Opinel, I jus got one myself and love it.  I field dressed a deer last week, a great $10 knife.
Is your large fixed blade a Old Hickory or higher priced similar knife?

It's marked "Queen Cutlery".  I found it in an old hardware store in Athens, AL.  The carbon steel blade is a little thicker than an Old Hickory.  It's also a little bigger than I like, but it holds an edge like a razor.  I believe I paid $14.95.

Queen Cutlery was somehow connected to Case Knives, and they made quality products.  I am looking forward to some post deer season squirrel hunting when I get, or if I get out of Louisiana.  Right now, it is snowing and freezing.  I am blaming it on some Habitat volunteers who came down from Colorado.  Next, they have to leave their weather at home.

I got 2 more squirrels today.  I switched to a mod. choke and it isn't tearing them up as bad.  I used my little Bench Made knife.  I heard several turkeys and saw some deer.  I had 00 buck & slugs, but I couldn't tell for sure if either was a buck.  Turkey season isn't open yet.
