22 Browning Auto from Dad
« on: December 11, 2008, 09:44:25 AM »
I have been given a beautiful little .22. It is a Browning semi auto made in Belgium. This is a fancy little gun with intricate scrolling on the reciever and the trigger guard. It has checkering on the fore end and grip. This rifle was won in a 1$ raffle by my grandfather and was given to my dad as his first gun. Dad is now 62. Somebody please tell mi if this may be the gun Ive seen in stores in the 1600 to 2000$ range?  New guns that look the same only made in Japan seemto sell for +- 500$. Thanks in advance for any help here.

I've sure never seen one bring any such price as you mention. Not long ago (less than two years but likely more than one year) two of them sat on the shelf at the local gun shop I do most of my business with. One was the cheaper chinese made version with a Leupold VX-III 2.5-8 scope on it and the other was the Belgian made one. Both had the same price $400 on them. I bought the chinese one, took the scope off and put a $25 simmons on it and traded it back and got $300 in trade for it. So I got the Leupold VX-III for $100 the way I looked at it.

I've never seen one sell for more than in the $400-$450 range around here.

[I've never seen one sell for more than in the $400-$450 range around here.]

Grade I Japanese (Miroku) ATD's sell in that range, for sure - but not one made in Belgium, especially if it's a "wheel sight" gun.
A Japanese Grade III or IV is appreciably more expensive.

Grade I Belgium's typically sell close to $1K in excelent condition - BUT..........

It COULD be that you have a Belgium Grade III there, as you mentioned an engraved trigger guard, too.

A pic would help, as Belgium Grade III's are in the $3K neighborhood.

regardless of  value yu obviously have a family heirloom in hand. those are awesome rifles and if you shoot it much i dont think yu will be interested in what its worth except as a conversation starter.
