Seacoast Artillery Goes to Visit Rocklock's New Cannon

     We had a rare opportunity to visit with a cannon shooter today and see his new Confederate Parrott.  She's a beauty all right!  Built by Carpenter's Replica Artillery in PA, this is one fine looking artillery piece.  We tried some 'poof' loads for the back yard and the slap hammer/ .22 blank ignition system worked 100%.  See some pics below.

Thank you guys . I must say that Dom sent her to me with an attiude , she's already shown herself a bit "spicy" .

I bent down as shown in the photo but from the front quartering . All the time making damn sure I did not sink the front sight into my skull as it is very sharp .

When ,from down at my right knee a distint tearing/ cutting ugly sensation in my skull . "Yi Carumba!!!"
She suckered me high with the obviously deadly skull puncher front sight ...then the real play ,death from below .
Suffice to say Dominick makes darn pointy worm type implement . The little TART bit me B4 I even shot her . ..... Sooo ,I shall get even wit her .  , ,,,,.... It is barley vis. on the front yard photo on my right knee AND it bled....but ,as not to sound like a whinner ....I did kinda like it !  and WE SHALL get along splendidly .

I Have not named her .... yet but I'm leaning toward  "You Hot Hungarin She Devil ...." or maybe "Spank Hard" or the ever popular Elvira ,Misst.......Well you have proly got the jist of it ...I'm in LOVE wit a PARROT......"Polly" ? . "Sweet Poly" ......"Really Sweet Pol....." . Like a mod might say lets just leave it at that . "I'm SO HAPPY"     ,

When I was in SA I had a Hyundai Atos.  The only thing smaller was the Smart Car.  It took some getting use to driving up along side a full size 18 Wheeler on the freeway.

Our Atos did come equipped with a tail gater prevention device.

better you do an x-ray on the barrel before you fire it again

Cannon is made in RSA from some left over bronze rod used in the manufacure of parts in the Durban Oil refinery...some sort of scribners error resulted in 20 feet to much rod being ordered.

Rocklock, That gun might work pretty good up here in Montana but you won't want to ride in a Smart Car the 800 miles to Montana. I rode in one to Pietermaritzburg and back, it was not fun.

Actually George. The way those Smart Cars are made the they are extremly crashworthy. They are unibody constructed and the passengers are enclosed in the solid body. It's knind like being inside a cannon ball...neatly on topic.  I think Mythbusters or Modern Marvel's did a segment on these cars and they came out pretty good if I remember right.  They did not do anything with cannons as flying cargo however

     RocklockI's new cannon is one of those cannons that is begging to be shot and we are going to try hard to fit a shoot into our very busy Christmastime schedule.  The weather must cooperate a little too, but we have been out in near blizzard conditions with Gary in the past and he is one tough Marine and a darn good shot as well.  We could never beat him with a flintlock rifle, in fact nobody in the state of Colorado could beat him either, for several years if my memory serves me. The shooting of artillery pieces is what keeps us interested in the cannon business as well as the crafting of each piece.  It is something that drives us forward, and snow drifts or not, we WILL be going out within a month and will bring back some well worn golf balls and some pretty ventilated targets!

     You can believe what you want about our new vehicle, but here's our secret for staying safe.  We will drive this little Smart Car just like we drive our personal autos, a GMC Suburban and a US made Toyota Camry, which is carefully, curteously and defensively.  THAT is what keeps you safe!

Gary, if you can, make up a few of those "special" projectiles you were telling us about.  Thanks.

Since we can't get an Atos in the US, we gave some serious thought to buying a Smart Car for running arund town up here.  It Makes good sense.  Then we looked at our 401K after the wall street bail out....enough said

 When I saw the pictures of the car I got curious and started googlin', (that is after I stopped laughing; this vehicle brings to mind those circus scenes where a shoe box drives into the ring and 12 clowns pile out) and DD is right, this car earned the highest safety ratings for front and side crashes from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and its rear crash worthiness was rated as acceptable.
