williams receiver sight on a 110-114?
« on: December 12, 2008, 03:09:40 AM »
Anyone use a williams peep receiver sight on a savage that came factory with iron sights? I have a 111 gl that i might put a williams peep on! I hunt in some medium to heavy cover! The williams peep is a quick sight for those 50 yards and closer shots! I veiw alot of used savages at sport shops and never seen one with a peep sight on except a 340 /30-30 savage! anyone else like the williams peep! There are no crosshairs to break or change in point of aim or yellowing of lens's its forever!  thanks Dale

My father-in-law has a nice savage 110 in 30-06 with iron sights in his gun shop, if it's still there come the first of the year I will be buying it specificly for hunting heavy cover with a williams receiver sight. I've used them before on lever action rifles and they are fantastic!

I have a Williams guide sight on my Savage.  It didn't come w/ factory sights but I'm not sure why that matters to you.

In fact the barrel is an Adams&Bennet .35 Whelen barrel.

I had a 'smith put on the barrel & sight ramp (he did the work for less than I could buy the barrel-swapping tools).  I settled on a KNS front sight globe w/ little crosshairs.

The peep sight combined with that globe front is the cat's meow.  When the light is poor & the shots are up close and quick I just look through the peep and center the front globe on the deer's chest.  For finer shooting the little crosshairs give my eyes a good aim point.
