Winchester 121-D
« on: December 12, 2008, 01:26:17 PM »
Has anyone owned one of these single shots? I found a nice one at a pawn shop today and bought it for my grandkids. The action is a sort of miniature Mauser, with front locking lugs and claw extractor. I found one reference that claimed it was made by Cooey for Winchester.
Does anyone make a receiver sight that fits a grooved receiver?

I took this to the range, and found it wouldn't fire. No mark on the rim. Got it home and figured out the striker assembly had been screwed together a couple of turns too much.

Mine is a plain 121. Just guessing but it must be the "Youth" version, single shot, and open sights with the dovetail. I've had it since my dad gave it to me when I was about 12, living in Alaska in the early 70s'. Sorry but I don't know much more then that about them...

They were made 67-73 in Canada by the company you named. The D had sling swivels, ramp sight and fancier stock. I have the 131. Same thing with detachable mag. They are good rifles. The locking lugs were to increase accuracy. They were ineffective in the 22, but did not hurt  accuracy either. The original design was modeled after a mauser one of the tzars had scaled down for his son.
If it has a broke or missing sight.

Totenkopf, thanks for the information. I did some more digging, and found that Olin purchased Cooey in 1961, and made Winchesters for Canada there. Apparantly kept some of the older Cooey models in production, too, as well as introducing new models like the 121/131/141. It's a little confusing. Once we get past this arctic weather, I intend to get back to the range for some shooting.
