Third Tikka
« on: December 13, 2008, 07:52:24 AM »
This rifle, my third Tikka T3 Lite, held no surprises. This one is chambered in .270 and is their stainless steel version. It weighs in at 7lbs. 1oz. wearing a silver finished Simmons Prohunter 3-9x40 scope mounted using a DNZ Products Game Reaper mount. With the addition of 3 rounds and it's magazine, it brings that weight up to 7lbs. 5 ozs. I chose the Simmons Prohunter because I had one, a 6X42, on my Winchester Mod. 70 in 7mmWSM and it held up well to the recoil of that cartridge while having very good optics and their Hydroshield coating for rain. Simmons has definitely made a good effort to improve their product line. I loaded 20 rounds using a load suggested in Lyman's manual, 130gr. Sierra Gameking bullet over 58.0gr. of H4831SC. That load should produce around 3000FPS from this rifle's 22 7/16" barrel. After bore sighting the scope, I fired 4 rounds at 50 yards to set up the scope and then fired another two at 100 yards to get the rifle shooting 2" high at 100 yards. I fired one 3 shot group at 100 yards and it measured .79" with 2 shots in one hole and the third shot taking the group out to that .79". I believe it may have shot better had I not pulled that last shot, but as usual I'm very happy with these Tikka rifles and their accuracy. When I got home from the range I cleaned the barrel and loaded another 40 rounds using the same load.

I would not expect any less from a Tikka.  Sounds like you are going to get bored loading accurate rounds for your new rifle.

I have 3, t-3 Tikkas.  30-06, 6.5x55, and .223.  They are all sub-MOA but the 30-06 took handloads to get there.  The 6.5x55 is a once in a life time tack driver.  They are just great out of the box and for hunting out to 300yds. just buy some good factory ammunition and go hunting.  Balanced, lighter than most, and good looking wood on blue.  It is a way to spend money and get a for sure shooter.  Not the only brand but a very good one.  I have also have some good Savage's and Remington's but the Tikka's are my go to hunting gun.    Buckfever

Suhweeeet! I'm liable to add a few more to the arsenal myself. I like the T3 stainless guns probably better than any others I've looked at.

As soon as they chamber the T3 Lite in a 204 I'm grabbing one
