I dunno. I've never seen one.....but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I'd call Savage on Monday and just ask them. If anyone would know....they would.

Anything you find will require drilling and tapping the barrel, so just find a base that has the proper raidus on the bottom to match the barrel diameter where you want it mounted and drill and tap the barrel to match the base.  Should be an easy task in the basement.  Larry

Thanks guys, a friend suggested an extra long weaver rail and drill it to match the holes already there and mount the scope ahead of the action on the excess rail.

sounds like it may work, thoughts???

Guess you could attach a scope to it, but do you really think that having a scope attached to a rail that is sticking out in front of the mount in free air will hold zero or be in any way accurate?  You need screws holding it down to the barrel or action very firmly.  Larry

Trotterig has an excellent point.

BTW....why do you want to install a scout scope on this rifle anyway? Or is it just the fact (perhaps) that you already have this type of scope and you don't want to spend the cha-ching for another scope?

Maybe consider selling this scope (if my assumption is correct) or trading it for a "regully" scope.

??? I'm like Dave, why the scout scope. You could get a shotgun/muzzle loader scope with 4 inches of eye

relief or you can get scopes with 6 inches of eye relief ?  Jim

There are a lot of purpose built rifles, I have a couple, one is a scout mount on a 22 Mag Handi Rifle, I did it so that the barrel with the scope attached could fit inside a brief case for shipping, my travel Coyote Rifle.  It is purpose built and really only suited for that one thing.  Have at it, it is fun to have a rifle that is made to do one thing really well.  Larry

Well see....there ya go! Thanks Larry. Another guy who "thinks outside the box". That's something I never thought of....but an idea that I will "store in the memory bank". I may never use it, may never need to suggest it to someone else...but you just never know. Great idea.

Again, thanks for the post.

I have a 35whelen stevens 200 that rather "scout scoping" I simply optimized for maximum eye relief by using a EER Banner with 6" of eye relief mounted on a millet picitinny rail as far forward as possible.

With this setup target acquisition is fast and there's no risk of scope eye when shooting heavy 250grn loads

trotterlg,

That is too cool!!  What is the mount?  T

My reason for the scout scope is two fold:

1. opens up the center balance point of the rifle for easier carrying

2. for some reason a forward mounted scope allows me to shoot better with both eyes open

The base is from a Thompson Contender, just happened to have th proper raidus for the barrel where it was attached.  Larry
