« on: August 17, 2003, 12:17:23 PM »
I bought 2 dozen of these at the NTA . Gave $ 130.00 a dozen,They have a 6 1/2" jaw spread. I put Taos spring kits on them, JC's shock springs and 3 crunch proof swivels, Also inside  laminated them with 1/8" square stock on 1 dozen and 3/16" round stock on the other dozen. Still under $190.00 a dozen and there ready to catch Coyotes. Anybody else use any of these yet??.....B.....

Don't own any S Creeks...yet. Them and Dukes are two traps that I don't have in my arsenal.  I do about the same mods to my Bridgers and you should be very happy with the traps.

I've yet to handle any of the new style Sleepy Creek traps, if you could answer some of the questions I have about them, that'd be great.

What is the actual inside jawspread of the trap? Measuring from the inside of one jaw across the other. The Bridger #3's are advertised at 6 1/2" but that's outside. Inside, they're about 6"-6 1/8" depending on the batch. What does the Sleepy Creek measure?

How does the steel quality compare to say a Bridger? If you laminate (or do any welding) to a Montgomery, and then a Bridger it's easy to tell the Bridger is made of softer metal and the welder will penetrate deeper. How do the Sleepy Creeks add up?

Also, what's your opinion of the pan set-up? How would you compare it to a Paws-I-Trip pan system? Does it seem coyote proof?

What's your overall opinion of the trap compared to a Bridger #3?

Sorry for all the questions, I really should just get one for myself to see. I just haven't got my hands on one of them yet.

The #4 SC measures 6 1/8" inside jaw spread. I welded them with a 110 volt 130 amp mig welder with flux core wire and had it turned up all the way, I got good penetration, I haven't done any bridgers in some time so I really can't answer that ?. It does seem to be a good quality steel though. Thay come with a baseplate riveted on with a center swivel system that looks very good. The pans are very similar to a paws-i-trip, with the onlt differance being the dog doesn't have the dot stamped in it. The offset jaws are stamped instead of sheared so you get a wider smoother jaw right off the bat. I think the pan system is pretty well Coyote proof. Compared to the No. 3 Bridger? Well you don't have to base plate these or add a paws-i-trip pan system. I did still laminate these and 4 coil them, also added mb crunch proof swivels and Jc's shock springs. Now fully modified I'd put them up against any trap. Hope this helps. I'll try to get a Pic of one so you could see them.....B.....
