Wyatt Vers Clay Allison It really happen??????

I was reading in Wyatt Earp Frontier Marshal in 77 or 78 Wyatt was the marshal in Dodge. It said the Texas cowboys who couldn't scare Wyatt sent for Clay Allison who they wanted to take Earp out. But went on to say Clay when he ran into Wyatt didn't follow through with the gun fight and walked away. This is the first i've read about that anyone read about it in other books?
