They made a Bisley in 45 Colt for a long time. Finding one my be a little hard but can be done.
It's a Ruger so it can take the hot loads.

Now that I know they make a scope mount for the standard Bisley, I may just pick up the first one I find.

44 or 45, any barrel over 6 inches, blue or stainless.

A guy had one at the gun show this weekend; standard BS 7.5 inch Bisley. I looked at it and it was not so obviously, but definitely, used, and the guy had it priced at darn near the MSR!

I do need more information on the scope mounts available for the standard model though. $:-\$

I am not so sure you will be happy with a scope.
If you shake trying to get the cross hairs on what you want and shoot it the group will be a pattern and having read other posts of yours I do not think you will like a pattern. Try it with the open sights. You may be happier. I ripped the scope off of my 22 because I could not get it to do what my rifle could do and I am pretty steady. I kept waiting for a better sight picture and the longer and harder I tried to keep the cross hairs on the target the more I was doing the figure 8 and the worse my scores got. went back to iron sights at club shoots and scores went back up.
The only handgun I have a scope on is my 223 T/C and that gets used off of a rest most of the time to shoot potatoes and lemons. It has been used off of logs and a fender to shoot ground squirels in CA.
But jumping a deer on your way to the stand, open sights are going to be the way to go.
Oh yea you are never ever going to out draw a white tail so when moving throug the woods take the revolver out of the holster. Carry the holster with you. It's handy for when you have to drag out your 8 to 10 point buck.

Interesting point McWoody! Really gives me something to think about. $:-\$ I was actually able to see the (Fire Sight) sights on my Taurus and they are clear as a bell if I wear 1x reading glasses. Maybe you're right... I made my boys learn to shoot with iron sights and wouldn't let them use a scope till after they killed a deer using irons. I guess this is kinda the same thing!

I just think you we able to kill a deer with Iron sights and not be happy with the scope. If you were near by I'd let you shoot my scoped hand gun to see if you like it. Is there anyone you know with a scoped handgun. Even if it is a 22 it will let you know if you like it or not.
I agree with Kids shooting iron sights. especally learning. Too many kids have scope scars.

Good idea about trying out a scoped handgun. Just never thought of hunting with anything else. Guess I need to go back to the basics, open sights, and see what I can do at 25 - 50 yards! Ah HA! a new challenge!

Nope, not not anything special... just the basics of good pistol marksmanship!!!

Don't ya remember? Body position, trigger squeeze and site alignment. Acquire the target, align the sites, focus on the front site and squeeze...BANG. If you focus on the target, you will loose alignment and hit high. if you try to watch the rear site, you wont hit squat. I don't carry a NRA master pistol qualification card by NOT knowing how to shoot a pistol!!!

I wish allot of you guys where closer, or I to you... This post would include directions for the local coffee shop. Followed by a trip to the range to shoot my Bisley 45COLT!!!

The operative word here is "focus!" In my case I can hardly "see" the front sight anymore!

I did get some 1x reading glasses that let me see them clearly though. And, at 25 yds, the target is of course out of focus but not to bad. $:-\$ This is pretty much why I always thought of a hunting pistol as scoped. Back in my younger days I normally qualified as expert on the various PPC courses, shooting head shots to make it interesting...

That was with a S&W M10 38 Spl. though, never could get that good when we went to 9mm's.

I'm not a SA revolver fan but my son has a .41 mag Blackhawk I have first dibs on if he sells it. With a Hogue grip it's a great handgun. Not too much kick and very accurate.

Is that an old model by chance?
Some fifteen or so years ago, my pop didn't like the SBH I had. But did like the four clicks of those old models. Just like the SAA'a ya know, The Duke and Eastwood had in them wondeful ol' movies. He really wanted an old model 45Colt. I watched and watched for another , but only found one and I own!

But I did pick up a old model BlackHawk 41Mag with a 6.5" barrel. I gave it to him for Christmas one year, as his hunting handgun. He likes and shoots it very well. He is under the strictest "suggestion" a son can give to his pop, not to sell. These are getting scarser and scarcer as well as more and m ore costly. You will love yours once you get your hands on it!!

cwlongshot , it's a New Model BH. It's his second .41. Some "citizens" broke into his place several years ago and took his first one.

The one he has now is a beaut. A friend of mine bought it when Ruger announced they were going to discontinue them. When Ruger started making them again he sold it to my son.

Well, the wife-mate and I spent the day together, breakfast at Cracker Barrel, a gun show, a gun shop and 3 pet stores!

She has decided she wants a lap dog; our German Shepard is 11 years old. She said she wanted a Bijon Friz (sp) or a toy poodle but said they cost to much.

Right then and there I saw my opening!

So I made a deal with her. Honey I sez, "I want to buy a gun. Tell ya what, whatever I spend on the gun you can spend the same amount on a puppy!" She jumped at the offer!

It may cost me some money, but at least I won't have to use the old "oh I've had this for a long time!" excuse!

There's a limit though. The gunshop had a new FA 44 Mag. I told her the virtues of it but she took one look at the $1900.00 price tag and gave me that "don't even THINK about it" look.

Oh well, I guess every deal has it's limits...

Maybe if I tell her she can get a puppy AND a Glock.... $:-\$

Could be worse.
I have a buddy that has a deal with his wife. What ever he gets as caliber she gets as stones.
25-06 is a 1/4 carrot diamond. She lets him have what ever he wants.
She really likes it when he gets black powder rifles and shotguns. 10 ga is .775. I think she is on her second tennis braclet and she incurages him to hang out at the gun shop.
He does not even have to do the empty case with the cleaning rod trick. ( you put a cleaning rod in a gun case and carry it out to the truck acting like it has a rifle/ shotgun in it. Helps to stick a box or two of center fire rifle ammo in, Toss the range bag in the car and off to the gun shop for your pick up. Take the cleaning rod out and put it in the range bag. Head to the range for the rest of the afternoon and walk in with the new gun in the case clean it and back into the safe. Ta DA!) Only a problem if you fill the safe and need another one.

I think the RSBH is a fine choice for hunting and the Bisley is the only frame Linebaugh recommeds for conversion to his 5 shot super magnums?

That's interesting! Now, I don't know what a "super magnum" is, but I can imagine!

I started looking into scope mounts tonight and that issue is kinda pushing me from the "any SBH Bisley" mode back to the Hunter model. Although people had good things to say about the "screw into the rear open sight holes and clip to the barrel front" mount, it makes me nervous strength wise. And I don't want to drill and tap the top strap.

The questions I had concerning the balance of the 7.5 inch barrel and the fit/feel of the grips have been resolved in favor of the revolver's suitability for me, but what about this mount issue? $:-\$

Buehler <SP> makes a good LONGSTANDING mount. I have had a couple, no gun smithing and utilizes the rear site threaded hole and clamps around the top strap. Its a nice looking setup as well.

I would not be so opposed to drill and tapping the top strap, usually its done UNDER the rear site so not seen at all with the sites on.... Many S&W's come form the factory this way and if you didn't look at the bottom of the top strap or remove the rear site, you wouldn't even know!!

They are Bearpaw grips made in Jackson, Missouri....very reasonable at 60 bucks or so. I don't know if he carves for Smiths or not.

ATlLaw - (1). Stay the heck out of pet stores, they are traps and ambushes for the lonely heart. If the wife wants a lap dog you can do much better by finding a breeder close enough to you to go and get your pick of the litter. Some of those pet stores can result in absolute heartbreak and if your wife has to give up a dog I don't want you to have to give up a gun. Also, if this is the lady who suffers Rheumatoid Arthritus a small lap dog may be more of a challenge for her to control than a larger, more mellow breed that would be intent on staying by her rather than being cute doing something.

(2) Those are a couple of really nice loking SBHs. If wearing glasses gives you a clear sight picture then wear your glasses. If you practice with your revolver you will be able to shoot well enough with open sights to enjoy a good hunt. I have never found a scope on a revolver to help me at all when trying to pick up a moving critter. With open sights I can at least get the front sight on them but not with a scope.

(3). If the Bisley SBH comes in different barrel lengths you sure have options. I used to shoot a SBH for silhouette and once I got over the three pound hammer fall I could knock'm down at 200. There wa another shooter who had taken his SBH (7.5" bbl just like mine) and had it shortened to 4.5-4.75 or the like and it balanced so well I felt if I ever did anything with my SBH it would be to send it out for a shorter bbl. If you reload, there are so many bullet/powder options for the 44 that you won't have to worry about a barrel 2" shorter. And for practice you can shoot what you shoot from the Taurus - how's that?

I'm assuming the heavy rib and glow sights on the stainless Bisley in the pictures is the Hunter's Model - that might help with keeping recoil down but I like the one CW posted - looks more like my older SBH and I understand you can retrofit the Bisley grip frame to those older models - maybe another option here......
